Sanity

"I miss my sanity," I say breathless. "have you seen it?"

"Yes, not long ago it passed by."

"Wich direction?" I ask curtly.

"This way. If you hurry you may catch it."

"Thanks." I call, already on my way.

I run around corners

And through deserted streets

Only to cast a quick glance at its shadow.

Sometimes it waves to me

From behind a tree

Laughing.

"Wait!" I call and wipe sweat off my forehead.

But it pretends not to hear.

When Im too exhausted to do one more step

It comes back a bit

And smiles at me.

"Look within." it says.

I nod and sit down on the hard concrete

To look within.

It doesnt take much time

And I find insanity.

Im furious and scream:

"Whats all this about?"

"You dont understand," my missing sanity says calmly.

"Its no lack of something, its something more. See it as an extra."

I consider this briefly, knowing I have no choice.

First I feel like a lucky man, then it begins to get through to me.

I hang my head.

"You know nothing," I say softly. "I paid for it all the more."
