Troy, Ohio, is all Sierra has ever known. But when her family moves north 60 miles to a small town, things start to change. She should be happy. She finally gets a pet other than a fish, she gets to live right next to the largest man made lake in the United States, and makes really nice new friends. But when the school bully starts to stalk her, she gets worried. She has dreams of Demons, strange hallucinations, and visions of the future. It's up to Sierra and her friends to figure out what's going on, before it's too late.
I can't believe all this is happening. Mom told me the news today. We're moving. I don't want to go! I love Troy! I love my teacher, my friends, and my apartment! I love going to the Tree Lighting downtown, on Christmas Eve. I need to make a plan, for us not to move. I have an idea. Can't talk now, I hear Mom coming to my room.
"Sierra, can I talk to you?" My mom asked, as she was knocking on my door. I just blared my Taylor Swift Music louder, hoping she figured I couldn't hear her. No such luck. She barged in, unplugging my CD player.
"Sierra, Listen." She starts. I just ignore her.
"Sierra." She says.
"I'm not going to be nice anymore. We're moving. Face it." She says, annoyed.
"What if I don't want to face it? I'm not going. Nova and her family would let me live with them!" I say. Nova is my best friend. and next door neighbor.
"Sierra, No. You are coming, whether you like it or not. I've already registered you for School next fall. I think you'll like it there." She said.
"No. You can't make me. I'll live in a box if I have to." I retort.
"You'll come around. But until you do, you're grounded from all electronics. Including the phone, and your CD player." She says.
"Fine. I'm not budging." I say. "I'm going out." I say.
"Be back in by 10."
I grab my book bag, put my diary and pack of pens in it, and walked out.
Meet me at Hemlock.
That's what I write on a slip of paper. I run to the next apartment, and slip it into Nova's door. She'll see it. We each check for messages at exactly 5 O'clock each night. It's 4:50 now. Hemlock is a cluster of giant Boulders at the edge of our neighborhood. We gave each location a name, and we meet there to share news, or just talk. It's 4:55 by the time I get there, but Nova will use her skates. So she should be here by 5:03. I climb into the little cave they make. Nova and I are the only ones who know how to get into it, as far as I know. You have to climb on top of it, then lift up a few smaller ones, then, you have to climb into it, and replace the rocks. Soon enough, I hear the scrape of wheels on a road. I look out a crack in the rocks, to make sure it isn't just skateboarders. It's Nova. Soon enough, she has her backpack and skates, and runs inside.
"Hey!" She says.
"Hi." I say.
"Why so glum?" She asks.
"Well, we have news. Apperently we're moving, but I have a plan." I say.
"Well, what's your plan?" Nova asks, curious.
"Okay, listen close. What we do, is we go into your house, and then, we just say I'm visiting. When I have to go back home, we go out the back door. Then, when you go back in, just shout that you're home, and you're tired so you're going to bed. Then, we both sneak into your room. I sleep on the side of your bed on the floor, that's hidden. Then, we only communicate with paper, and stuff. And, you can sneak me food and water, so I can survive, and all that stuff." I say. "In my backpack, I have a day's worth of food , 3 bottles of water, my diary and pen, and 50 dollars." I say. "So If we run to the corner store, we can get another backpack, and a bunch of food and stuff." I finish.
"This might actually work." Nova said.
"Waitt." I say, realizing something.
"What if Mom calls the cops?" I ask.
"Easy. I have an idea." Nova said.
"Now listen closely..."
