Watching through a window from her room at ten o'clock
A child saw a falling star
It seemed to fall forever far
And in the grass beside her house
It tumbled to a stop.
The girl slid fuzzy slippers on and quickly ran outside
Her sleepy eyes swept through the grass
And landed on a piece of glass
And when she saw the tiny thing
She knew it was alive
What the girl had thought was glass stood up and dusted off
It fluttered silver fairy wings
Its crystal body twinkling
It flew up to the child's ear
And then politely coughed
It whispered in a dusty voice from far beyond our time
"I have come from far away
and through the starry milky way
to grant you any wish you ask
so let me know your mind."
Her young sapphire eyes aglow the little lady smiled
She thought of what her wish might be
and she decided, finally
"I wish to see the stars with you."
The star said "Come then, child."
It conjured her a sailing boat to sail into the sky
The boat set off into the night
The star providing it with light
And so they sailed the universe
And waved the world goodbye
The dawn of the next day the child woke up with a yawn
Leaning on her windowsill
She'd drifted off against her will
And dreamed a starry sailboat
And a fairy on her lawn
