Amar Alosae
As Elhnaka rose to become paramount among the city states along the Linta river, its kings claimed the title of emperors. They forged their imperial title, alosae, by combining the words for high priest, alo, and king, sae, demonstrating their divine right to rule over the other saes. The title of empress, saesina, was similarly constructed from the words sae and sina. A title which indicated the lady of Elhnaka was the queen, sina, of all kings.
At first, the emperors claimed complete spiritual and worldly authority. However, as time went on the emperors found it wise to gain favour among the powerful priesthood of Veles Sastro, the Holy Flame. They soon reinstated the office of high priest, the Alo, but the power balance had forever shifted in favour of the imperial rulers.
Although many emperors throughout Elhnakan history would become referred to as Ames, "the Great", it did not become a part of the imperial title until the Voltanes Dynasty. After having conquered the last free Maratan kingdoms Aechteon Voltanes attached amar to his title. When emperor Aechteon was later usurped by his son, Dyrrachios III, the title was made hereditary, as Dyrraichios did not want to be eclipsed by his father. From this time onward the Elhnakan emperors would style themselves as amar alosaes.
