What I never had

As I turn to walk away
My hands start to quiver
I can hardly breathe
I can hardly think
But I can move
So that's what I keep doing

It's for the best
I know
I had to leave
I know
This is what needed to be done
I know

But why does it hurt?
Why do I scream?
While nobody listens, nobody cares
Why do I cry
And why do I stumble
Everytime I remember
There was something before this empty life

How come I grieve
How come I long
For something I know has become so terribly wrong
Why am I reeling
Why do I miss…

You.
No not you.
It's for the best, I had to leave, this is what needed to be done.

I grieve for what I lost
I long for what has died
But hope had shriveled
Before I turned my back
Love had been erased
Before I turned my back

A spin of my imagination
A figment so convincing
Just a little longer
And all will be fine again

So conflicted inside
But no words to explain
I misunderstood, I'm sorry
I misunderstood

It's for the best
I know
I had to leave
I know

But I still grieve

For what I never had
