It's dark, cold, the moon hides

In a blanket of clouds

Hooves churn the dirt beneath us

As we fly through the night

The safety of water somewhere before us

Wolves so close behind

I can almost see their eyes

Feel their teeth nipping our heels

You tighten your grip on reins

I tighten my grip on you

You whisper that it will be alright

The water is near and the wolves are

Falling behind, slower than our horse

And not so desperate as we

With a tumble and a splash

We make it to the water

A safe haven;

And I awake, drenched in sweat, not river

Breathing hard, I look for the horse, the wolves,

Look around for you.

A sigh of relief- it was just a bad dream.
