"Hello," the teacher smiled at the new student.

She was of average height, about 5 feet and 4 inches. Pale complexion, deep set eyes, thin with small features. Her hair was her most distinguishing feature. It fell in lightly tousled curls over her shoulders and slightly past her breasts. It was cut at an angle, thinning at the bottom. What stood out the most was the fiery crimson color.

She nodded once.

After a few seconds, the teacher asked, "Are you new?"

She nodded again.

"Do you have a name?" he asked, getting annoyed.

"Ruby Sterling," she stated curtly.

"Well Ruby, I'm Mr. Schafer. Welcome to AP Bio and to Milano High," he smiled.

Her face was bored, as though she had been through a thousand times. Mr. Schafer was a bit annoyed at the new girl so he said, "Why don't you introduce yourself? Come over to the center of the room."

She walked to the center slowly, beginning to hate this teacher. The room was so silent you could literally hear a pin drop. She turned to the teacher with a raised eyebrow. He just looked at her expectantly. "Hi. My name is Ruby," she muttered.

After a few moments it was clear she wasn't going to say anything else so Mr. Schafer asked, "How old are you?"

"17."

"Where are you coming from?"

"'New Jersey," she said.

"Any hobbies?"

"Is this an interview or an introduction?" She answered with her own question.

"Both."

"As far as I remember, I consented to neither," Ruby replied

"But I'm the teacher and what I say goes. Now answer the question." He said angrily.

After a few moments she said, "I write."

"Poems?"

"Stories."

"About?"

By know her patience had expired and she smiled wickedly as she answered his question with venom, "Oh, you know. Vampires… werewolves… girls who brutally murder their annoying Biology teachers."

"Do those girls do that before or after they are suspended?" He asked with his own anger seeping through his words.

"While they are on suspension, of course. What other activities would keep them entertained while they are away from school? But it's obviously after they torture the teacher for countless hours. What's a good story without blood and guts?" She smirked.

"Bad answer. Sit down." He spoke through gritted teeth.

"There's no such thing as a bad answer, only bad questions."

"Miss Ruby, do you want to get suspended on your first day of school?"

"It wouldn't be the first time," she muttered as she took a seat in the back.

After taking a few moments to recover, Mr. Schafer started the lesson. He refused to look at her throughout the entire period. Ruby didn't care, for she was lost in her own thoughts, absently doodling on the notebook she was supposed to be taking notes in. She wouldn't fall behind because she was very smart and had learned to teach herself out of textbooks when needed. Besides, she had already heard this lecture on mitosis at her old school. As the bell rang, she jumped out of her daydreams and quickly packed her backpack. Then she noticed him.

His sleek, jet black hair was tousled beautifully and contrasted dramatically with his pearly white skin. He was wearing a black leather jacket on top of a white oxford shirt that clung to his sculpted muscles perfectly, black jeans and Chucks. He lent down to pick up his backpack and when he got back up, he stared directly into Ruby's eyes. His crystalline blue eyes locked with Ruby's charcoal grey eyes. Time seemed to freeze. She forgot where she was. She started towards him, totally entranced, but he broke their gaze, turned on his heel and left the room swiftly.
