Not fair, yet not Cruel
He ran down the cold street, ignoring the looks he got from the few people that were left. He just wanted to get away from them; to go some place were he could be all alone. It was happening again; just like last time. He had fallen for it once again.
He picked up his pace as he felt the tears coming to his eyes. It wasn't fair. None of it was. He just wanted it all to end, so that he could move on, but for some reason, he was on a never-ending time loop. Every time something like this would happen, he would go into a corner and cry, but then, the next morning, everything would be back to normal. He would go back and act as if everything that had happened the night before never existed.
The boy stopped running and bent over, using his legs for support. He watched as his breath became visible before quickly disappearing in the cold air. He hadn't realized how cold it had gotten, or how late it was. If it wasn't for the street lamps every few yards, he would not have been able to see anything around him, but then again, wouldn't that be better?
"Why?" He asked himself as he watched a tear drop roll of his nose and land on the ground beneath him. "Why did this have to happen again?" he asked, knowing he would never get an answer. How many times had this happened? Was this the fifth? Sixth time? It had gotten to the point where he should have known off the bat that all of this was just his imagination, or worse, just empty hope. At least if it was his imagination, he could end it at any point he wanted.
The boy listened as the footsteps of the people around him started to fade, leaving the only sounds to be the cars that drove by every few minutes. He closed his eyes, trying to stop the tears. He couldn't cry, not here. He had to wait until he got home, where he could curl up in his warm bed. The boy wiped away the remaining tears and stood up straight. He was now all by himself and when he looked at the street name, he saw that he was only two blocks away from his apartment. He began to walk calmly towards it, hoping that he would not run into anyone else.
As he reached the door, he reached into his pocket and began to search for the keys. He knew they were in there somewhere, but no matter how much he searched, he could not find them.
"Oliver!" screamed a voice behind him. Oliver tensed at the voice. He knew that voice all to well. He began to dig into his pocket more franticly, not wanting to stay out here any longer. "Oliver" called the voice again. Oliver reached up and began to turn the door knob, hoping that he had forgotten to lock it.
Oliver closed his eyes as he heard the sound of footsteps running up the stairs and towards him. He didn't want to deal with this right now. He just wanted to hide in his bed room, between the sheets where no one would find him. He listened as the man behind him stopped. He could feel the man's gaze on him as he listened to his heavy breath. What was he doing here? Why did he come all the way here? Why can't he just leave me alone?
"Oliver…" The man said, making Oliver snap.
"What!" He yelled at him as he spun around. "What do you want! I thought I told you I didn't want to see your face ever again!" he yelled at him. He was fighting the tears that were threatening to spill over as he looked at the man standing in front of him. His brown hair was a little a mess, but still looked to be almost perfect. His green eyes were staring at Oliverwith fear and worry, making a ting of guilt rip through him.
"You-" The man started. "You don't mean that."
"I do mean it! That is why I said it!" Oliver yelled at him as he tried to look away from the man, but there was something about him that made it impossible to do. "Why would I say something that I don't mean?"
"Because…" The man stopped, not knowing the answer to the question. A look of shock appeared on his face when he saw something trail down Oliver's face. "D-Don' cry!" He said, taking a step forward to comfort the man, but he only made it worse.
"I'm not crying!" Oliveryelled at him as he tried to wipe away the tears, but that only gave room for more to fall. When the man took a step closer to him, Olivertook a step back and hit the door. "Just…leave me alone!" He yelled at him, his head still down as he tried to get rid of the tears. He didn't want anyone to see him like this, especially this man."Just leave me alone." He whispered to himself again as he felt his legs beginning to give away.
Something wrapped around his waist, holding him from falling as he was brought closer to something.Oliver's eyes widened as he watched the grey shirt of the other man fill his vision.
"I would never leave you alone." The man whispered as he rested his head in Oliver's soft black hair. "No matter how much you want me gone."
It wasn't fair. None of it was. Here he was, trying to escape from this man, and all that he has done was get closer to him.
The man pulled back a little as he un-hooked his hand from around Oliver's waist and brought it up to his face. He used his fingers to brush away a small tear that had fallen from Oliver's face before letting it take his chin and bring it up to his. Oliver's eyes widen as the older man placed his lips on his and began to kiss him.
It wasn't fair. None of it was. This man was just another pretty face, and yet, no matter how much he tried to escape his grasp, he somehow always got pulled in closer.
The man pulled back and looked down at Oliver, watching his reaction. Oliver just continued to stare wide eyed at the man, his mind filled with fog. The man smiled down at him as a small blush crawled onto Oliver'sface. The younger man suddenly looked away, but did not push away to get out of the older man's grasp.
It wasn't fair. None of it was. Everything he had tried; everything he had done to get away and back into the safety of his own heart, had utterly failed.
The man reached up and brushed Oliver's face again before holding him closer to him as he leaned down and kissed him again.
When it came to this man, nothing was ever fair, yet nothing was ever cruel.
