Chapter 9.
BPOV
"Bella, I'm going to be working late, will you be okay getting home?" Mr Whyte popped his head out of his office.
I nodded. "I'll be fine sir."
"Good girl, here's some change for the luais." He placed some coins on my desk.
"Are you ready for me to take down the memo's for you Mr Whyte?" Charlotte asked as she bit the bottom of her pencil.
"Sure, go in an wait for me." He grinned at her and looked at her with lust filled eyes.
I rolled my eyes and turned away from them, picking my bag up off the ground and getting ready to take off.
"Look Bella," He sat down at the edge of my desk. "I know Charlotte is a bit flirty with me, and Roisin and I fight alot, but I wouldn't cheat, you know that right?"
"She was asking me alot of questions about Roisin." I told him causally.
I saw him stiffen. "What questions?"
I shrugged as if it were no big deal. "What age she was. What she looks like... Hmm although when she asked when you were leaving her and I told her you weren't that seemed to throw her."
Mr Whyte's face turned ashen. "You know I'm not going to leave Roisin right?"
I nodded. "I do... Does Charlotte?"
"I'll talk with her now... But don't mention this to Roisin or Ethan. It'll just cause trouble unnessicarily." He tried to smooth over it.
"Only if you can honestly tell me that there is nothing going on between you and Charlotte." I spun round and face him, my eyes narrowed.
He narrowed his eyes too, he clearly didn't like being put in these kind of positions. "There is nothing going on between me and Charlotte."
I glared at him for another minute. I knew without a doubt he wasn't lying but there was no point in continuing to questioning him.
"I need to go if I'm going to catch the next luais." I pushed out my chair and was about to storm off until he grabbed hold of my wrist.
"You've got to promise me you won't say anything to Roisin or Ethan." His voice was quite and menacing.
I looked down at his hand on my arm. "I won't say anything, but if you ever grab me by the arm or in an aggresive manner again, I will."
He dropped my arm at once, and I made my dramatic exit. I had no idea when the next luais was arriving but I was determinded to leave with the last word.
"Hello, blue eyes." When I steped out of the building I saw Ethan leaning against the wall.
"Ethan what're you doing here?" I asked. I thought he was still mad at me for taking the job with Mr Whyte.
"Well I felt bad for being so distant with you this morning, so I thought you might like to go out with me and my friends." He pointed towards a car filled with three other people.
I bit my lip. I got really shy around people I didn't know. "I don't know how much fun I would be."
"Oh come on your tons of fun." He took my hand and dragged me towards the car.
"Ethan, I'm not sure if this is such a good idea... I get nervous around new people." I whispered nervously as we got closer.
He ignored me and motioned for the people to get out of the car.
"Bells, this is Leah." He pointed towards a short girl, with blonde hair who glared at me first, then broke into a grin.
"Nice to meet you Bella." Her voice was to sweet and sugary to be real. I knew she was just being nice for Ethan's sake.
"And there's Max and Joe." He pointed to the two lads standing beside Leah. "Joe is the one with the radio show."
Joe was thin and tall. His hair was black and spiky. He had dark brown eyes, and slightly tanned skin.
"It's nothing really..." Joe waved it off but I could tell that under his cool exterior he was secretly chuffed.
"And Max does the soundboard and holds calls for the show." Ethan rolled his eyes at Joe and moved on to Max.
"Now that is something, it's alot of work." Max laughed. He had short cropped hair and baby blue eyes. He was tall but chubby and had a few spots on his face.
"He's modest." Ethan laughed.
"I can tell." I smiled at them. They seemed nice enough.
"So shall we go then?" Ethan asked clapping his hands together.
"Go where?" I asked innocently.
He smirked at me. "Time will tell."
The boys headed for the back while Leah headed towards the passanger seat. "Actually Leah, could you give Bells the front seat? Since she doesn't really know Max and Joe."
Leah looked at Ethan as if he'd struck her. She turned to me and glared before getting in the back of the car beside Max and Joe.
"Where're we going?" I asked Ethan as he pulled out into traffic.
"For me to know," He winked at me. From the mirror I saw Leah glare at me. "Ignore her," He added in a whisper.
"This your first time up in Dublin?" Joe asked me, conversationally.
"Yes and no. I've visited my aunt who lives in Bray but it's my first time up here alone." I smiled. It felt oddly free and liberating to be here on my own.
"And you just happened to run into Ethan?" Leah asked sceptically.
"Shut up Leah or your not coming with us anymore." Max snapped at her.
She sank back and crossed her arms over her chest a let out a breath.
OoOo
"A pub? Really?" I asked him curiously as he pulled into a practically abaondoned car park.
"Nah, we're not going inside. Leah can't get served. See the trees down there?" He pointed towards the back of the pub.
I squinted til I could see where he was pointing. "Yeah I think so."
"Well the son of the guy who owns the bar always has this party around this time to celebrate the last month before back to school." He grinned and Max and Joe started to cheer in the back of the car.
"In the woods? Does that seem safe?" I bit my lip nervously. Deep down I was a wimp. Being a goody two shoes sometimes didn't pay off.
"Told you we should've just left her at your place Ethan." Leah sneered. "She isn't going to be any fun at this party."
"She's just a bit nervous." Ethan growled at her, then turned back to me and lowered his voice. "Don't be nervous. There will be a few drunk idiots but don't worry I'll protect you."
"Oh please." Leah muttered, got out of the car and stomped across the gravel towards the woods.
"I'd better keep an eye on her... If something happens to her you know my mam will find some way to make it my fault." Max rolled his eyes and ran after Leah.
"I'll... Eh... Yeah..." Joe trailed off and followed slowly after Max.
Ethan gave me and adorable half smile. "Come on Bells... As soon as you aren't having fun, I'll bring you straight home. Deal?"
I nodded and smiled slighty. "Deal."
He opened his door and slammed it. He waited around the front of the car for me and when I joined him he took my hand in his.
"Woah! The party is started! Ethan's here!" Someone yelled as we emerged through the trees into a clearing.
"So your popular, huh?" I gave him a playful nudge with my elbow.
He shook his head. "Not as in the guy who is captin of the hurling team... More in a I won the battle of the bands thing last year."
"Wow, that's impressive." I nodded.
He shrugged. "It was okay I guess." He let go of my hand and took two bottles of beer from a cooler and handed one to me. "Do you drink?"
I bit my lip. I never actually had drink before. Okay now that sounded bad... My mom had let me have a little bit ot drink at Christmas but this was the first time I would be drinking at a party.
He laughed. "Don't worry Bells, the beer won't kill you."
I felt my face burn up and I snatched the beer out of his hand. I hated that he thought I was a child. "Thanks." I hissed before I stormed off towards a bridge near a river.
He looked at me puzzled. When I turned around I thought he was going to follow, but then a girl caught hold of his arm and he was immediatly distracted. Of course. It was the same with all guys, once someone prettier came along, I was all but forgotten.
"Hey how do you like the party so far?" Joe came up behind me as I leaned against the bridge.
I shook my head. "I don't."
He rested his elbows on the bridge beside and leaned close to me. He smelt like beer, cigarettes and some common kind of deodrant.
"Why don't you?" He asked curiously.
I didn't want to let him know why I was angry at Ethan. Plus why should I care if he was talking to another girl, we were only friends. "Nothing. I just don't know anyone."
"You know me." He nudged me with his elbow.
I smiled at him. To any other girl sure Joe was handsome. His tanned skin was to die for and he had a strong square jaw. His brown eyes would make a girl melt just by staring into them.
"Your very pretty Bella." He leaned his head down and pressed his lips against mine. It started off great, but then he got sloppy like a slug. It was like he was trying to eat my face.
I pulled my head back. "I'm sorry Joe... I'm not attracted to you that way."
He nodded in understanding. "That's cool, no hard feelings. But I meant it when I said you were pretty." He winked and walked off.
I shook my head and wiped my face. Ugh that was the worst kiss I'd ever had. I wonder what it would be like to kiss Ethan? I shook my head again to get rid of the thought. No use thinking like that, not when he doesn't feel the same.
