Chaos raged as people ran from their homes to the large ship, and saying good-bye to loved ones.

"Dad! I won't leave you and mom!" I yelled at him. No way was I leaving him here.

"No son! You have to get on the ship. Our star is going super nova soon, and you know that will cause it's sister to go as well. Our planet is going to be absorbed by the explosion. We need to save as many healthy Nebalians as we can."

"Why can't you go!"

"Look son," He put his hands on my shoulders, "You'll have your sister, now please, get on the ship."

"But-but-"

He hugged me one last time before pushing me towards the ship that would take me away from him and mom forever. "Go."

I heard a voice from behind me say frantically, "Come on you nut case!" And out of the corner of my eye, I caught a fleeting glimpse of long blond hair, before Kay grabbed me by the arm and dragged me into the ship.

Once we were inside, I lost Kay, but I didn't pay much attention or care; I would find her later. I ran to the nearest window-pushing through the crowd of people. Everyone must have been in, because I heard the sounds of the airlocks being closed and the ship started taking off. I stared longingly at my home planet as we flew away, never to come back.

I shifted my attention to Yankic, our star. As they ignited the thrusters to get us out of here and we broke the atmosphere, my attention centered completely to the terrifying beauty of our dying sun.

The scientists predicted it would start it's death cycle, and they were right. Yankic started expanding 2 billion years ago, but thankfully Nebala, our planet, was far enough away from it not to be swallowed by the expanded outer layer.

But now, Yankic is about to go supernova, causing it's sister star, Yaba, to explode and take our planet with it. A few months ago is when it got so bad that our elders ordered a ship to be built to save all those 25 and under to preserve our race.

When they announced the only people over 25 allowed on the ship would be the elders, I nearly had a heart attack. That meant my parents would be staying on Nebala to die.

It wasn't fair. We all loose our parents except Kay, her parents were on the elder council, along with a few others. Ever since then I've been stressing out about leaving half my family on a planet doomed to explode.

We were going to the nearest Galaxy, I think the scientists called it the Milky Way, to start a new life. It was almost 1,400 light years away from us which, with the ship traveling at full speed, should take 7 days to get to. Once there, we were to find a planet far enough from a star that could stain life, and make it our home. At least, that's the plan. We can only hope that it actually works.

"Yankic is blowing! Ignite the light speed thrusters and get us the hell out of here!" One of the captains yelled.

I shouldn't have been standing, I should have been sitting or at least holding on to something because when they activated the thrusters, I went flying into a nearby stairwell. Last thing I remember before blacking out was my sister's voice.

"Way to go you idiot!"

"No, move that speaker over there! The microphone goes in the middle! Not too close to the drum set! Don't hang that banner too low!" A girl barked out orders to a work crew, she reminded me of one of the female elders when they're on their period, but what caught my attention the most was the girl herself.

She was beautiful, long blond hair and piercing blue eyes, high cheekbones, and golden tan skin. She reminded me of Kay, except Kay had straight hair while this girl's was curly, and Kay had deep green eyes. She looked about my age, 16.

"Sammie!" A voice called, making her look up from her clipboard.

"Yes Lauren?"

"Are you going to Prom?"

"Ugh," Obviously annoyed by her friend, the Sammie girl walked towards an upraised stage. "Now is not the time for this Lo!"

"Come on!" The Lauren girl ran after her, "We're all going! And you're a shoo-in for Prom Queen!"

"Right, because the head cheerleader being Prom Queen isn't totally over done."

"Come on! You're the most popular girl in school, but not because you're some hag from hell. You're going to be voted Prom Queen because everyone loves you! Now just go!"

"Nice little speech there Lo, but I don't want to go. Plus I don't have a date."

"What about Tommy?"

Sammie sighed, "Tommy and I are through. Have been, always will be."

"Aw why? You two were so cute together!"

"Lauren! I don't have time for this right now!" Sammie shook her head, sending blond curls flying around her face. "I have to get the stage ready for the dance tonight. Please just...go swap spit with Johnny or something."

"Ok!" Lauren exclaimed cheerfully and skipped off. Sammie sighed again and ran a hand through her hair.

Someone called her name "Sam!" It was followed by a loud crash.

Sammie cringed, "Coming!"

That's when I opened my eyes, and when I did, I was met with Kay's worried green ones. "Finally! Thank Zobit!

"Come now Kayabot, don't swear on Zobit's name." I said rubbing my head and trying to sit up. Kay quickly put a hand on my chest and pushed me down.

"Oh no you don't, you're not leaving this bed until your head heals. You hit it pretty hard." She reached over and grabbed something off the side table. "Here, take this, your head is probably acting up again."

I took the pain medicine from her, she was right, my head was killing me. "You know me too well Kay."

"Hey Kaya, is To-" my sister walked into my room, "Tobit! You idiot! You know better then to be standing when they turn on the thrusters!" She punched my shoulder.

"Takit, don't hurt my patient." Kay said not looking up from the counter that she writing something on. Eyes in the back of her head, I swear. She paused, looked up, stared at the cabinets, and said "Further." before going back to whatever she was writing.

"What do you mean patient?" I asked.

"Tobit," Kay laid her pencil down and glared at the cabinets. I felt sorry for them, anyone on the receiving end of one of Kay's glares would agree with me. Personally I've received many of them. "You have a concussion so I'm going to forgive you for forgetting this once. Now, as you know, I'm studying in the medical field, and the nurse gave me this case to practice."

Kay turned to face me, and I noticed for the first time she was wearing a white lab coat that looked huge on her small figure. "Plus she didn't trust anyone but me with you. You tend to be a handful."

"I can't help that."

She rolled her eyes at me, an action that happens a lot. "Sure you can't."

Takit laughed. I decided to change the subject. "How long have I been out?"

Kay looked through the papers on her clipboard, "About 48 hours." She looked up and I obviously made it apparent I didn't know what that meant "Two days Tob." She said irritably.

"Oh, thanks. Wait! I've been out that long?!"

"Yep, you hit your head pretty hard. Also you're going to have to stay in bed until we get to the nearest galaxy."

"How far have we traveled?"

"About 200 light years." Takit told me, "At least that's the count last time I was up in the control room."

"Why were you in the control room?"

My sister looked at Kay, "How much has he forgotten?"

"Hopefully just minor things like those. Now that he's awake we can run some tests and see what the real damage is."

"Alright, I have to get back to the controls but Tob, don't forget that Kaya can kick your butt if you try anything." With that, she left.

No one had answered my question. "So..why would she be in the control room?"

"She's studying to be a pilot, so she helps the Captains because like me, she needs first hand experience to graduate. But come on, we have 5 days to make you all better, or at least back to your norm; which could take a while. We need to start tests."
