So basically, this is just a short storey I wrote in yearbook about how amazing summer is.

The smell of freshly-cut grass. The bright sun. The song of the birds. Only one word comes to mind when I step outside. Summer.

I sigh and run under the giant willow tree in my backyard.

"Hey Leila!" my best friend Zoe calls. I turn around and see her dark brown hair flash behind another tree.

"Get back here!" I yell back at her. As I track her down, I hide my water gun behind my back.

"SNEAK ATTACK!" Zoe suddenly screams. My khaki shorts and turquoise tee are instantly drenched and she scares me so much that I almost fall into the swimming pool.

I laugh and squirt her back, getting a huge wet spot on her purple tank top.

We keep sprinting around until our guns are clean out of water.

"Uh, Leila, why don't you go fill up both of our water guns while I wait out here?" Zoe pushes me inside.

When I step back out into the fresh air, I hear Zoe say, "Thanks Josh. Bye," and hang up her cell phone.

"Why did you just call him?!" I shriek and give her the ultimate you-know-I-like-him look.

"Well," Zoe ponders, "I thought we'd have more fun if there were…more of us."

Oh no.

"Who all did you invite?" I aim my water gun at her.

"Whoa, chill Leila. Just my brother, his friend, Brittney, Natalie, her little sister, some other people from school, and oh yeah, Josh."

"Really?!" I wail just as the gate in the fence creaks open.

"AHHHH!" Zoe and I screech as her brother Mike, Josh, and a bunch of other teens storm into my yard and pelt us with water balloons and guns.

I jump behind Zoe and use her as a shield.

"CUT!" she gasps, "IT! OUT!" I drop her and roll behind the willow tree. Zoe is just a shrieking wet ball on the grass.

The fight continues, but at a slower pace because everyone is getting tired. I sneak a glance out from behind my favorite tree. Huh. Brittney and Natalie are setting up a boom-box.

I bravely get up and attempt to drench the others when all of a sudden, Kelly Clarkson starts belting out, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger…" Everyone who just joined in has turned against one another, so I'm not that big of a target anymore.

The commotion of the water war dies down a ton within ten minutes. Zoe and I are running around singing along with Selena Gomez to "Summer's Not Hot".

The boys then get the "genius" idea to throw the girls into the pool.

"Hey sis!" Mike runs up behind Zoe.

"Don't, no, please!" she begs. But he still chucks her into the clear water.

"Leila!" Zoe coughs from the water and beckons me to join her.

I forget to be aware of my surroundings as I refuse her offer.

"Nope, you're going in!" I hear Josh laugh. The next thing I know I'm in his arms and then, the pool.

Eh, oh well. At least he threw me in.
