I woke when I fell off my bed. It wasn't the most graceful landing. I'd say that it was as graceful as a dinosaur, but that would be offensive to dinosaurs.

I sat up rubbing my head and went out to see if anyone else was up. I pushed the door open with my free hand and ran into Jan.

"Morin', Nic. It's good to see you're still in the land of the living. If you need it the bathroom is the first door on the left. When you're done come and have some grub." With a smile on her face Jan then bounced away.

I turned, so that I was facing down the hallway and opened the first door on the left. I was relieved when I saw there was a proper toilet and even more relived after I had used it. I washed my hands and went to find Jan about that food.

... ... xxx ... ...

It didn't look like it would taste great but I haven't eaten that well these past few days so food was food. I ate enough so that I wasn't hungry but not so much as that I would be sick. I washed my plate in the bucket of water that was left and climbed up the ladder to Jen and Jan.

"Morning Nicole, you slept well I trust?" said Jen when he saw me.

"Yeah, I slept fine, except for where I nearly feel off my bed." I replied.

"Yeah, sorry Nic, that happens sometimes, when the water gets rough the boat tilts and pitches everywhere. So long as you don't fall off the boat, that water is freezing." Jan explained.

"Sooo..." I said looking around, "Where are we?"

"Somewhere on the map, hopefully, right Jan? I'm hopeless at knowing where I am on a map."

"Yes, we're right here. Half way between Valand and Dameous, in this stretch of water here," Jan said pointing out a spot on the map and following it with her finger. "That rough bit of water last night was when we joined the current."

"So how much longer until we reach port?" I asked.

"Another twelve hours again, so a few hours after nightfall we'll make port." Jan told me.

"So what do we do until then?" I asked, I hate being bored.

"Well I'm going to stop us from crashing into anything, so you can find something to do, but don't distract me." Was Jan's answer to my question.

"Well, I want to have a bit more practice with the mind thing and I was wondering if there was anything else you could teach me Nicole." Said Jen.

"Alright, where do you wanna go?" I said.

"Whatever you two do, keep out of my mind. It feels creepy."

"You can feel it?" I asked turning my complete attention to her.

"Yes, but nothing else, I can't react, I can't even put up a basic shield but people seem to not to want to go into my mind."

"Alright, we'll stay out of your mind." Jen promised. "Come on Nicole, we'll work over here."

Jen lead the way down the staris and over to a pile of junk which jen sat down on.

"Find a seat." Jen requested.

"So what more do you want to learn?" I asked.

"Well is there anything else that you can do?"

"Well you can take over the mind of another person and instruct them on what to do."

"Is that hard?"

"No, but it gives me a head ache."

"Can you show me how to do it?"

"Sure, I'll try. Okay, find my mind and concentre on it. Got that?"

Yes

"Now, choose something, like make me stand up. Tell me to do it."

I felt my body wanting to obey an instruction that I didn't give.

Why didn't it work?

"I'm a mind hacker, I can feel it and resist, but you weren't trying that hard. Now try to force your mind on to mine and then make me stand up."

I felt the force, and then I was standing up. Jen was lying on his side, gasping for air.

"It's okay, just breathe, only concentrate on breathing. It will fade. Just give it a few minutes. Don't try that again, you have a worse reaction than I do."

"That. Hurt."

"Yeah, it does that, that's why I try my hardest not to do that."

"Did it work?"

"Yes, I stood up without even realising it."

"Ah, well, I'm going to lie here and have a nap."

"That would be a good move. You'll feel better after a sleep."

He closed his eyes and relaxed. I could see the worry fade from his face. I turned away to find somewhere else to not be bored.
