Reading over my first ever stories, I find some of the mistakes I made almost cute. For example, I didn't write numbers in word form and I didn't use commas after speech. I was doing "Yes." She said, instead of "Yes," she said.
I laugh at how naïve I was.
My first ever fiction endeavour – which is precisely 2,175 words – I remember thinking of as quite a personal feat and I was sure at that time that I would never write something as long. Again, I laugh at how naïve I was. Reading back over my old stuff makes me cringe, but I try to think how I've improved. All I can think about is how shocking some of the dialogue is. Actually, most of what I wrote two years ago is shocking and it's rather funny. I've definitely moved on in my interests, to say the least.
