Chapter 1: Safe or unsafe?
I looked at the door to the head part of the shop when I heard that madam Molony raised her voice.
"You can't do this!" She shouted.
"We can, in the name of the king of England." A man said. Confused I walked to the door and looked out at them. The man looked my way and madam Molony turned around and looked angry at me.
"You aren't gotten paid for standing there and stare! Go back to work!"
"Yes, madam." Carefully I closed the door but stranded still at the spot and listen to them.
"What is that workers age, madam?" The man asked.
"She is seventeen." Madam answered angry. "She is in age to work."
"That isn't what I was about to point out. In the name of the king shall every girl from seventeen and above be at the castle right now. And she isn't." I wrinkled my forehead. Should I?
"So what? She is just a servant! She isn't in rang to even be friend with the king!"
"He is the one to decide that. We will take her with us. Girl! Come here!" Nervous I opened the door and stepped out. The man's eyes open wide when he saw me.
"She is malnourished!" The man said angry and looked at madam Molony. "We will take her with us and close your shop for not one week but two weeks for this!"
"What?! Wasn't one week enough?!"
"Obviously not!" He turned his eyes toward me. "What is your name, dear?"
"Anne Walker, sir." I answered. He nod and waved me with him when he and the guards walked toward the door. I bit my lip. "Sir?"
"Yes?" He stopped and looked at me over his shoulder.
"My sister is over seventeen to, she's nineteen." He raised his left eyebrow.
"Is she working her to, Anne?" I nod and I could hear madam Molony swear. "Then go and get her. We are taking you both away from this place." He smiled. I responded his smile and rushed up to her sewing room. She looked up at me with confused eyes.
"Mary! The king's men are here and are going to take us with them." She raised fast from the chair.
"Now?!" I nod and fast as a lightning she throw of her apron with needles and with fast step we hurry down and back to the men. The man that had the command smiled to us.
"Well then, everyone gathered?" I nod. "Then let's go, my ladies. And madam Molony, remember my warning. We can shut down this shop and your workers state is a big reason enough to do so. Good night." He opened the door and stepped out from the shop. One of the guards holds up the door for us and stepped out after us.
With big eyes I stared at the cart in front of us. It was big, white and with golden details.
"Wow." I and Mary said in mouth of the other.
"Come on girls, we are taking a ride to the castle." The man said and stepped in. So we did the same. Curios I looked out when the cart started to move. The houses we pasted became more and more expensive until we reached the rich area of the town.
"So, sir. How did you find us?" Mary asked so I looked at the man again. He looked at her and whirled one of his brown curls between his fingers. He had really dark eyes, I realized.
"Well, it was with pure luck I found the two of you. If your sister hadn't sneak peak to check what was going on I wouldn't even know she had two very young girls in her custody." My sister nod and smiled her charming smile. She was after something.
"And what will happen now, sir?"
"The two of you will take part in the choose of England's next queen. No princess have fallen the king in taste so we are doing a last try with the citizen." She nod and gave me a meaning glance. She was going to do her best; it wouldn't surprise me if she was going to try to become the next queen of England.
"Oh dear sister…" I sighed. The man gave me a confused look but Mary was fast with asking questions again.
After the little trip to the castle we got help out of the cart by two guards. The king himself came rushing and looked confused at us.
"That is the meaning of this?"
"Madam Molony kept two girls over seventeen because she thought of them as only servants." The kings confused face turned over to an angry face.
"Damn that woman…"
"Hush king!" The man said.
"But it's true, Claude! She only brings problem." The man, Claude, sigh.
"Maybe, but you are in front of two lady's right now, my lord!" He looked at us and blushed.
"Oh, right. Forgive me my lady's. I got carried away."
"It's okay, Your highness." Mary said with a charming smile at her lips. An uncertain smile took form at his lips and then he looked back at Claude.
"Will you show the lady's to a room, Claude?" He nod, bow for the king and then waved us with him. We bowed to and walked after Claude. I sneak peeked over my shoulder and met his sea blue eyes. A soft smile appeared at his and so did it at my lips.
"Lady Anne?" I looked forward to Claude again.
"Yes, sir?" I wondered and Mary giggled. Claude gave her a hard look so she stopped.
"I was commenting that your attention was in another direction then at my information. Could you please listen, my lady?"
"Of course." I said and blushed.
"Good." He smiled. "So, back to topic. You two are now a part of the royal palaces under the choosing of England's new queen which mean the two of you also need to follow the castles rules." He started to count them all up. I sneak peeked over my shoulder again but the king was gone.
A soft smile appeared at my lips when I looked forward again.
I think I'm in love in this man with golden, long hair.
