-Second Lead Syndrome-

She's in the limelight as I sit on the sideline,

She's the only one who crosses your mind.

The lead role's not my part to play,

So the best friend role I will stay.

I've never been given that kind of chance,

To be the one given a second glance.

Because she's my best friend,

And we all know how this will end,

I'll wish them a happy ever after conclusion,

With all the great fairy tale allusions.

So this is what it's like to be me,

To have your best friend live out your fantasy,

To have second lead syndrome and to be,

Second best to her constantly.
