a glance at the mirror,
and i can see the imperfections you read,
preaching the words with the lilt of pity
and disgust and regret.
i see you writing them in the blink of an eye,
your mouth at the ready and my heart on the floor.
with a final stand in my throat and
the hopelessness in my chest,
my life is ending far too quickly. and with you,
standing above me reading a passage like your bible,
you give me no reason to change that.
