CHAPTER 5: FIRST LESSONS

"So my newbloods, I am very sorry for the incident that occured yesterday, our spy's should be looking out for more of these... but let's all forget about that and focus on what you have came here for... learning, well for our first lesson the Archmage suggested something less umm... complicating like the restoratory magic school, my name is Colette Marence, your first teacher" an old woman said, she was a teacher who mainly thaught newbloods about basic magic.

"I would just like to remind everyone, once again, that Restoration is indeed a valid school of magic. It is absolutely worthy of research, despite many of the notes I've had left in my bed. And my desk. And on occasion, my meals. Anyone suggesting that Restoration is better left to the priests of the Temples, I think, is forgetting a few things.

Firstly, the ability to repel the undead cannot be ignored. Utasia is well known to be full of these... Draugr, ancient warriors who cannot find peace. I submit that everyone in this Guild has, at one time or another, relied on one of the Restoration spells that can keep them at bay.

Secondly, how can anyone forget wards? They have become essential to any mage working in dangerous situations. They are counted upon every bit as much as Candlelight, or Invisibility. But more importantly, wards have saved lives. This is a simple fact. Every mage in this Guild regularly uses wards for practice, so as to avoid physical harm. I truly hope that these points actually sink in, and that more care and thought is given to this subject in the future. Thank you and lets begin your first lesson!" she finished.

Sepher stood and stared at her classroom, it was very hight with four columns standing between the ceiling and floor. Sepher was probably the only person who never used magic before, well she had to save her friend but other then that she didn't know what she was doing. A boy was standing next to her, she saw him at the Opening Presentation, his name was... 'Edgar oh yes Edgar' she thought, she seemed to fancy that boy but of course she would never tell anybody, she found herself staring at him, her eyes were wide with delight and then she realised he was also staring at her and she looked away, blushing with embarrassement.

"Sepher! I asked you to demonstrate the Lesser Ward spell!" shouted Coletter who seemed to be really annoyed at the lack of attention by Sepher. Sepher stared at her, not knowing what a ward was never mind a Lesser Ward.

"I'm sorry Miss Colette, I distracted her and... I'm sorry" Edgar said, Sepher stared at him and smiled.

"Well is that so Edgar... well next time just pay attention Sepher!" Colette shouted again and smiled. "So will you show us that Ward Spell... Sepher?" the teacher asked again. Sepher swallowed hard and tried to think of something to say.

"I... I cant do it" she managed to mumble.

"What is it?" Colette asked sarcastically and started giggling. "A girl that threw a big fireball at a Necromancer can't do a Lesser Ward spell... really? Well I guess it means you will be spending your afternoons in the Library" she tutted and pointed to Edgar. "Young man, will YOU show us the Lesser Ward spell?" she asked, knowing that Edgar was a really good magician.

Edgar smiled and walked to the middle of the room.

"You use the spell and I will send a a fireball at you" Colette smiled, from what Sepher heard the Ward must be some magical barrier spell. The grumpy teacher lifted her hand up and fire appeared in her palm, Edgar sent a blue force and made a mystical shield in front of him using two hands, Colette sent the fire at the shield and the flames evaporated as it hit the mystic barrier, Sepher gaped in awe.

"Hey Sepher!" Edgar called out, running after her after they left their first lesson.

"Oh hi Edgar" she replied, smiling brightly.

"It's so nice to get a friend on the first day" he grinned.

"F...friend?" she gasped, were they really friends... well now that she thought about it they really were friends. "Yeah friends and thanks for what you said to Colette" she smiled.

""No problem" Edgar laughed. "Oh and I have a Dragonology Course right now so be seeing you around" he said and with that he ran off. Sepher sighed and wondered what lessons she would have next, the First Lesson was mandatory for everyone but everyone else had different classes to attend then, she needed to find somebody to help her. She began walking towards the library.

"Oh Uriel!" she shouted as she saw the man about to walk into the library, he smiled when he saw her approach him. "Look Uriel I have a problem... you see what lessons do I have now?" she asked him.

"Lessons? Sepher have you not talked to the Archmage about it?" Uriel asked, surprised.

"W-What? You were supposed to do that? I never knew..." she shouted in panic. "W-Where is the Archmage?" she asked.

"Just in the library, I was going to ask him about the murder, you could go talk to him after I am done and oh... we might be asking you some questions but for now just go and study some spells" he told her and entered the library.

Sepher walked in after him and a wave of heat washed over her face, two fireplaces were ablaze in both conrers of the room which was entirely packed with bookshelves equally as packed with books written with LETTERS Sepher never knew existed. She looked at a man behind a counter - the librarian - and then averted her gaze to the Archmage and Uriel who were sitting in the corner, talking secretevily, she was about to walk towards the man behind the counter when:

"Umm Sepher could you come over here for a moment, we have some questions to ask you"
