my family lives in a different state - the head and the heart

the feeling of reaching down my throat
to pluck out disjointed words to soothe
this silence, lodged between car seats
and seatbelts,

can I climb out the window now?
what use would that do,
prying open these chapped lips for
anything

any words that have long since
dried in this dehumidified air
