Final Justice
Notes: Julienne Bourbannis (Voltigeur), William Mills, the Defence Force, the Protectors, and the Champions are all property of Tiamatty and are used only with permission and consent. I hope to do them justice.
Prologue
Julienne Bourbannis moved around her apartment, setting up the table for dinner. She walked into the kitchen to make sure the food on the stove was not burning.
"Is dinner ready?" came a voice from the bedroom. The voice belonged to William Mills, a young man confined to a wheelchair for life due to the fact he had no legs. She did not mind this fact. Most crippled people were extremely honest though in portraying their feelings. Also, she loved him greatly.
"Not yet," she replied in a heavy French accent. "Almost."
"I'm starving here," he called back playfully. "All those adventures with the Champions and this is how I die, of starvation."
"You're exaggerating," she called back. "Five more minutes. And no peeking."
"Ok, ok. Fine. But I better get laid for this too."
She smiled. "If you're lucky and play your cards right."
"Cards?"
"You know what I mean."
She heard movement from the bedroom. He was probably trying to peek. She looked at the ring on her finger. "So, any idea for a date for our wedding?"
There was no answer.
"I know you can hear me. Don't avoid the subject."
There was still no answer.
"Will?" She went and checked in the bedroom. Will was nowhere in sight. Neither was his wheelchair. "Will?!" All she found was his ring, spinning around on the floor and coming to a stop. "WILL?!"
Agent Eric Masterson walked down the mall hallway and clicked the button on the elevator going down. What could they possibly want this time? he wondered to himself. The elevator opened and he stepped in. "Floor 25B," he said. "Password is Alpha Tango Delta, Masterson, Rank 0002453."
"Password correct," a computerized voice said. "Fingerprint recognition, please."
The elevator panel slid up to reveal a hand pad. He placed his hand on it. It glowed as it scanned his hand. "Fingerprint scan complete. Identity recognized. Agent Eric Masterson. CIA. Security Level 5. Retina scan verification, please." An electronic eyeball came out of the panel. He lowered his eye to it. It glowed as it scanned his eyes. He blinked away the spots as the eye retreated back into the panel and the elevator panel slid down. "Retina scan complete. Identity fully recognized."
A couple and their kid walked towards the elevator. He stopped them before they could get on. The doors closed and the elevator went down, far down below ground level. The elevator let him off on the 25th floor down. He stepped out into a hallway. He then walked towards the only room at the end of the hallway and opened the door. At the end of the room, was the CIA director.
"Good," he said. "You're here, finally."
"Sorry. Was following a lead on Agent Andrews. She got away though."
"Not a problem," the director said. "We know where she is."
"Then why am I here?" he asked. "We can't allow a five billion dollar experiment to run free. I need to…"
"You need to do whatever the hell I tell you that you need to do," the director said. "If I tell you to squat down and shit me a green brick, by god you better figure out a way to shit me a green brick. Do I make myself clear?"
Masterson cleared his throat. "Yessir."
"We have a case of National Security, maybe even Global Security on my hands. One rogue agent is not a concern. Plus, my idea involves her anyways. It's time to activate Operation: Final Justice."
"A new team of heroes?" Masterson asked. "Is that really necessary?"
"Yes it is. We need someone to deal with this, immediately."
"What about the Defence Force?"
"Off-planet."
"The Protectors?"
"Another dimension."
"The Champions?"
"Not answering calls presently for some unknown reason." The director slid eight folders over to Masterson. "These will be the new recruits. Find them and convince them to team up."
Masterson looked over the files. "Whoa! This Shifflett boy can really do all this? These heroes are…..impressive. Maybe even the best I've seen."
"Yes. And I need you to break them in." He looked towards the shadows. "Oh. And I have a team leader already. She's agreed to help us until she finds her fiancé. She has a little experience so she can whip them into shape. She believes she'll have better luck finding him with our team than on her own, especially since she can't get in contact with her old teammates either."
A woman stepped forwards. She was wearing a white costume with red stripes on the sides, and a fleur-de-lis on the front. The cowl had a red stripe on it. "The name's Voltigeur," she said with a strong French accent, extending her hand towards Masterson. "Let's get started, shall we?"
Sorry the chapter was so short. Hopefully the chapters will get longer. See you next time when we see our first two team members. Tiamatty: I hope I didn't mess anything up. Reviews would be appreciated.
