A/N: WARNING! This chapter might not be suitable for younger readers. This story gets a little darker for a period of time. I know, it's been humorous so far (well I hope it's been funny) but I'm serious. I might change the rating because of this and a few later chapters. Also I'm a tad paranoid. But the rating won't go higher than T. That's for sure.
Training wasn't all too difficult. I learnt a few self defense moves, how to use the various gadgets provided by K.I.S.S., stuff like that. Now came the hard part. Meeting Russell Erickson.
I had been driven there and now stood outside his apartment door. There was a simple door knocker. Taking a deep breath, I knocked on the door. A few seconds later, a teenager with floppy dark brown hair answered. I suppose this is Russell. So he technically is a man.
"No, I don't want any Girl Scout cookies- Who are you?" he said.
"I am Natalia Prentiss from K.I.S.S. I am here to ask you a few questions," I said in the most confident sounding voice I could.
"Are you some sort of…" he trailed off. I guess he must have recognized the name K.I.S.S. and realized who I was. Well, what I represent. "Come in."
I followed him into what I guess was the living room. It was nice. There was a light blue three person couch, a glass coffee table, which was adorned with several textbooks. He gestured for me to sit. After I did, he followed suit and asked, "So, what have you come to ask me about?" The way he said it, it was like he already knew. I answered anyway.
"About what happened six years ago." I said it slowly. I wasn't sure how he'd react. He took a sharp breath which he let out in a long hiss.
"That was probably the worst moment in my life," he said. I detected a hint of hysteria. Uh-oh. Connor had warned me that Russell might not be very stable, and that mentioning this was very risky. But he was the only witness. He looked me directly in the eyes. "It was him, you know."
"Who?" I asked. His reply came instantaneously, getting faster and faster as he spoke.
"Him. We picked on him. At first it was nothing. Just calling him names. But then we started really hurting him. He'd go home every week, covered in bruises. We did it because of English. He was the teacher's pet. He was the favorite, no doubt about that. Probably because of his stories."
"What stories?" I was getting freaked out now. But I have to keep a clear head. Get as much information as possible.
"His stories. They were gruesome ones, they were. All about murders of teenagers. The disgusting pieces of work got him 90s at least. We weren't good in English. Very bad at it. Barely passed. So we took it out on him. Big mistake, I learnt, big mistake." He said it with a little more sanity. I got my hopes up too high though. "He wasn't normal, I tell you! He was just a wimp at first, a little wimp. He didn't talk too much at all. Not many friends. Then he changed. He changed, girl. I don't know how, but he did. We didn't bother him went we hurt him. He just smiled like a nut job with those freaky teeth of his and said, 'Just wait.' One day, we dragged him into school on a Saturday. We locked him in the hallway. He just grinned at us. Then, he-" Russell stopped talking, too caught up in the memory. I was really spooked now. "He did it."
"He… He did what, Russell?" I asked.
"He Did IT! He KILLED HIM! I watched him do it. I was too scared to move. Just like the movies. He twisted his neck and- and-" he stopped again and looked at my eyes. I was used to it. Some people talked to me for a while then it occurred to them that yellow eyes weren't normal. "LIKE YOU!" he screamed at me. "YOU'RE LIKE HIM! LIKE HIM! GET AWAY! I DIDN'T TELL, I DIDN'T! THIS IS CHEATING! You sent someone, didn't you! Someone to get me! I'm not coming, I'm not!" What?
"I'm sorry I don't-" he cut me off.
"GET OUT! GET OUT AND GO BACK TO THE HELL YOU CAME FROM! They'll find you. Oh yes, they will, and they will END YOU FOR WHAT YOU DID! LEAVE!" Screw professionalism, I'm out! I ran out the door of the apartment and out the building itself. I ran all the way back to my house and into my room. And that's when I started crying.
Connor and Officer McClinton watched the scene unfold from the security cameras in Russell's apartment.
"I knew it. She shouldn't have gone. It was too dangerous. What if he actually tried to hurt her? I know she's not defenseless, but she's a kid. What if he revealed she was-" Connor didn't get to finish.
"The point is he didn't and we should be thankful for that. Imagine the disaster if he did? She'd lose it," McClinton said. He was worried for her. The poor girl was twelve for goodness sakes. She might be tough for her age, but no one is left unchanged from something like that.
"Not directly. But he hinted it. And with all the other things she heard, she might come to the conclusion herself," Connor said darkly.
"She's smart, but she'll be slightly off even if she does figure it out," McClinton rationalized.
"But her father…" Connor said, trailing off. There wasn't any need to explain further. Natalia's parents were from different dimensions. They met because of an inter-dimensional exchange program.
"I know, Connor. Hopefully she won't have to deal with that," McClinton sighed.
"She might already be 'dealing with it'."
A/N: See what I mean those who ignored and/or didn't read my warning? I know there are also plenty of other things that are way darker than this. I read some of them. But I have a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE sense of what is and isn't appropriate for small children in terms of stuff like this. Other than the obvious, I mean.
Here are my random facts of the update!
RANDOM FACTS OF THE UPDATE HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY CANCELLED DUE TO THE POLL ON MY PROFILE THAT DECIDES WHAT RANDOMNESS WILL BE POSTED NEXT.
I have another story I'm thinking of starting in January. It's a fantasy/supernatural story called Angel. I might also use it for my English project that starts in January, hence the far away commencing date.
Also, I'm looking for a title for this story. If you have any suggestions PM (Private Message) or post it in a review. Once I get enough ideas, I'll make a poll (I seem to be making quite a few) so you can vote on the best one. And don't vote for your own because it's your own. Pick the one you honestly think is the best. If that happens to be yours then go ahead.
I'd also like to thank the reviewers, as you all gave me such happiness at getting the "New Review" message in my inbox. You all make me happy! I give you all cookies! Except A. I give you a free trip to Dumpling Land.
