The Tree

I
heard
the padding
footfalls of little
Anna Dare.
Whispering past her parents,
descending down the stair. Out
into the front room, wooden floors
glowing from the moon. A
teddy squished and choking, a wide-eyed
wondrous stare. The tree is overflowing.
Santa has been
there.
