NOTES: This particular homework assignment was a bit odd. Simply because I believe writing, if it is good, will withstand the test of time and reach across to all generations. The class had to explain what "here" was to an audience one hundred years in the past and future. So, this is what I came up with. My teacher was rather impressed with my "future" explanation.
To you in the future, who understands the world in what I hope is "better;" I was here—and "here" is sitting at a desk, in a first floor room of a junior college located at Riverside, California, USA during a cool end-of-winter day, on the planet we call Earth in the Milky Way Galaxy, part of the edge of a spiraling universe that is centered around a massive black hole—a thing we cannot see or touch or truly measure, but in theory, believe to exist, as I might believe you exist.
In the past, "here" was probably an orchard field, or some untouched, unblemished part of Golden California—but my "here" is a college, filled with opportunities and wisdom.
