Who caused the end of the world?
Theron closed his eyes tight. As if he could block out the thoughts that circled themselves around his mind. He had to hold on, he had to hold on to his hatred. It was all that he had left. It was the only thing that kept him safe from everything that he had done. It was the only thing that had kept him sane. He was one of the few that had survived. One of the few that had seen the end of the world and lived on. He hunted the things that stalked the darkness, he hunted the monsters with everything that he was. And that gave him a purpose. The hate he had learned from his father fuelled his hunting and kept him safe in his moral blanket. But he was so close to letting it slip away. So close to losing the anger that kept him going, that hate. He had to hold on.
Then his eyes snapped open. He had it, that last single thread that could keep him bound to his hate. The last thread keeping him safe and protected from who he had become. There was one thing he was sure of, one evil that he knew a monster had commited. An undeniable sin that gave him justification for his actions. "Who caused the end of the world?" he asked quietly with as much force and venom as he could manage in that moment.
Echidna tried not to laugh at the coincidence of his question. That was the final arrow in her quiver, the final weapon she had, the final tale to tell. Everyone knew how the end of the world had finally come, who had been responsible. But few save the creature herself knew the answer. Echidna however had heard the tale from Phoenix herself, knew the true tale. Let me tell you what The Phoenix told me, Theron. I will tell you who caused the end of the world."
