The green canoe, overturned, dominated the wooden space
We rested our heads on it, but it moved with our weight
And the stars outnumbered our thinning thoughts
We looked up
And we could touch them
We saw dim faces in the candlelight
Our song floating across the water
In words none of us understood
But that were imprinted on our minds from years of use
The water mingled with our words and met the sky
And we watched the stars
Not undermined by manmade light
They stretched out across our vision, mesmerizing
It was the last moment I believed
