The year is 2010. Humans have locked themselves in their fortresses. Zombies roam the countryside, shifters wreak havoc, werewolves raid on the full moons, and vampires hide among them. My name is Kari, I am a vampire. I am two years from becoming an Elder. Throughout history, humans have fought amongst each other. We have been caught in the middle. I have seen many wars, and fought for the side I like most. I was born in December of 1843. I grew up with no knowledge of the horrible creatures roaming the Earth. In 1861, I enlisted to help the Union as a nurse. In September of 1862, I helped a wounded soldier. By this time, I learned of a potential threat, vampires. This wounded soldier was very protective. I tried to help him to the best of my abilities, but in doing so, discovered his darkest secret, a horrible truth. The vampire attacked me and left me to die. The doctor I was placed under saw the attack. He was an old family friend. He bit my wrist and changed me. I was bitter at first, but later resigned myself to helping people from turning into the creatures of the supernatural.
Zombies are always a threat. They hunt in packs and are difficult to kill. Werewolves hunt us. Shifters frame anything and anyone they want, and vampires fight to survive, and to keep the humans alive.
New vampires are called newborns. They become Elders at one hundred fifty years old, if they even live that long. Ancients are five hundred years old. Almost none make it there.
This is a story of how my life changed because of a mistake I made, this mistake changed another life, and I gained a faithful companion.
This story is written well after it happens. Kari is writing the story. When she writes this story she is seven hundred thirty years old, but is about one hundred fifty in the story. Kain (a character you will find out about later) is five hundred eighty when it's written. His age in the story will be pretty obvious once he's introduced. The first three chapter have a vague time, the rest of the chapters shouldn't skip around as bad as the first three.
I own my characters and story.
Doc, however is not my character. I did change his personality a bit (sorry). Doc is owned by GHOST-sherri. She gave me permission to use him. Check out her story ShadowStrike to read more about him.
