you lie awake
waiting for the one
to call you
'my daddy'
i lie awake
wondering when someone
would love me more
than my father ever did
your hands caress me
no matter how big i was
you rock me with your gentle swaying
your gentle words
and your gentle eyes
as they sparkle like the moon and stars
i can see the night in your eyes
as you sing me off to slumber land
and i lie asleep
with a pat on my body
with a kiss on my head
and you smile
knowing that i would gladly call
you my father
even if you weren't real
