"I need to tell you something."

Allison led me over to a chair.

"I have cancer, Macy."

My perfect friend. The smiling blue-eyed blonde with an amazing sense of humor, the one who made straight A's, who loved being outdoors and being active, the one who couldn't dance. It wasn't possible, she couldn't have cancer.

"It's terminal. The doctors only gave me a one in one-thousand chance to live."

I stare at her, unable to comprehend at first. She couldn't be dying, I wouldn't allow it.

I feel the tears start to slide down my face.

Ally reaches over and holds my hand.

I look at her again, she doesn't even look sick.

"Don't cry"

She's smiling, how could she possibly be smiling?

"I was the one sperm in thousands that ended up as a person. I've already beaten the odds once, why can't I do it again?"
