When the morning came of the last Saturday of each month I would usually be ecstatic and just craving to get the beach, but this time I was afraid but at the same time I was excited and nervous. It was exactly one month after what had happened; it had seemed like a century. I was actually kind of hoping to see Dylan and Mallory again, to actually talk to the real him instead of the half dead person I had saved a month ago. But at the same time I didn't want to know what he would think of me, whether he would be grateful or just embarrassed that he was saved by a girl. Over all of my worries and emotions though I still had to go the beach, it's compulsory.
We drove to the beach in the same big bus we do every time, and it was the de ja vu that happens whenever we go to the beach. Except this time I was hesitant to go down my normal route on the beach. I waited a little bit next to Emma's and my bags before eventually getting up to head up the North part of the beach.
As I slowly approached the strip of beach where the incident had happened I noticed two figures sitting on the beach eating fish and chips, I saw a pair of small yellow bikinis and knew straight away that it was Mallory and Dylan. As a slowly got closer and closer to where they were sitting I tried to avoid eye contact and just walk past them but of course Mallory saw me and screamed out "Aliza!" She ran over to me to embrace me in a hug just like the ones Emma gives me. I was okay until Dylan approached us.
I was afraid and excited at the same time, butterflies started to rise inside my stomach and I couldn't help but just look at the ground with a small goofy smile on my face. "Aliza this is Dylan and Dylan this is your savour Aliza" Mallory said. I just had to look up to see his face, so I did just that. He had a large scar on the left side of his forehead but i couldn't avoid looking into his deep blue eyes, they shined like the stars that lit up the sky and they looked at me with both sincerity and shyness. We looked into each other's eyes for what seemed like hours but I quickly looked away again back to Mallory who seemed to be the ice breaker for us. She said to him "Are you going to thank the gorgeous young girl who saved your life or are you just going to stand there like a lazy blob?" I giggled a bit and so did he before he said to me "Well thank you I don't know what would have happened to me without you", with that he held out his arms in a gesture that said hug me. I took up his offer and wrapped my arms around his neck and shoulders while he placed his arms around my back.
His hug gave me that feeling you get while sitting in your bed at night with a hot chocolate listening to the rain, that feeling you get while reading a love novel, that feeling you get when you get a hug from the boy of your dreams. It was warm and comforting and I felt safe in his arms and I felt like I should never let go, but we broke apart and all I could do was put that goofy smile back on my face.
"Aaaaawwwww, how cute" cooed Mallory. I started to blush and get quite embarrassed, but then I noticed he was blushing too. I couldn't help but think how cute he looked with his cheeks all pink and a shy smile on his face. "So Aliza, how long are you staying at the beach?" Mallory asked, "Until sunset" I replied. She started to quietly squeal and ran off saying that she was going to get ice-creams for the three of us.
I was left there standing awkwardly in silence with Dylan, until he broke the silence. "So tell me about yourself" he said. "Well there isn't really much to be told. My name is Aliza... Just Aliza, I'm 14 years old, I'm an orphan and I grew up here in the Gold Coast, I have no family and my home is St Helga's Orphanage for girls" I finished with a small smile but then got rid of it as soon as I saw the look of pure astonishment on his face, "Wow" was all he said but continued with "So you have no idea who your parents are?" "Nope" "And you have lived in an orphanage your whole life?" "Yep" "Wow" he said again but really stretched it out this time. For about a minute or two all we could hear was the seagulls fighting over the leftover chips that he chucked in the bin.
Eventually I said to him "So I told you my story, now whats yours?" He replied "Okay where do I begin? Well I was born here in the Gold Coast, was raised by my mother and father and you have already met my little sister Mallory. We travelled around Europe when I was five and she was three, when I was ten and she was eight we went to South Africa and lived there for a year, then came back and lived here until my current age of 15 and her current age of 13." "Oh my God our lives couldn't be more different!" I stuttered in shock, "Ahahahahahaha yeah". We were both laughing when Mallory came back.
"What's so funny?" she asked, "Don't worry" Dylan and I said in unison, we both burst out laughing again, but this time Mallory joined in.
After our round of laughter we each grabbed an ice-cream and started eating. Mine was mango, Mallory had choc-mint and Dylan had his favourite, honeycomb. We were all sitting there just eating our ice-creams when I realised it was sunset. "Shit!" I said, "What?" they both said together. "Its sunset and I have to go, if I don't go i will be in huge trouble with Ms Mackle!" "Oh... Well will you be back again?" Dylan asked, "Yeah, this time next month" "Promise?" "I promise" I finished with smile.
Just as I was turning away to run back to the girls, he grabbed my shoulder, turned me around and embraced me in another big bear hug. I hugged him back, enjoying it as much as possible, and when we released he quickly leaned over to my ear, still holding my shoulders. I could feel his hot breath against my neck and then he whispered "Thank you", then he came face to face with me and just kissed me!
It was crazy, but amazing. His lips were warm and soft and made me feel like I had just been touched by an angel. But it was just a fairly quick kiss, as he pulled away what I though was too soon. The only reason I didn't go in for another was because I knew I had to go, so when we separated I gave a big smile and ran off.
As I was running down the beach to get back to Emma, I could here Dylan and Mallory talking. "Oh. My. God. Dylan!" "What?" "Holy crap what was that?" "I just gave her a thank you kiss, thats all" "That was way more than a 'thank you' kiss, you like her you idiot!" "So what if I do!" That was the last thing I heard before it just turned to faint mumbles.
