Chapter 12 "Visiting"
Scene starts in the car with Ella and her sister.
"So, Ella are you really taking me to the mall to get ice-cream or are you going somewhere else?"
"I just have to pass by somewhere and then we can get ice-cream, but you can't tell mom."
Dj looked straight in front of her and took a deep breath in, "Am I even allowed to go in the jail?"
"Yeah, we just have to sign in and go, but you have to stay near me. Okay?"
I'm really glad that my sister was the kind of person that could keep a secret, because otherwise I'd be screwed.
"Please sign here and put any belongs in this box, and go walk through those doors. You can leave her here, Daniella." Officer Jill said smiling at Dj and glaring back at me.
"Thanks Mrs. Justice and you're not going to tell my mom right?"
"For the sake of Dj, I won't. But maybe you should listen to your mom and not see this kid; ever again?"
"Thank you." I turned to Dj and gave her my phone to play with and ran through the doors and this machine to check if I had anything on me.
Then Officer Moores escorted me to the area where I could visit people. And that's where I saw him.
"Jerard." I said running over to him and quickly hugging him.
"Ella, you know the rules no touching." Officer Moores revised.
"I'm sorry, I just had to." I said sitting down and facing Jerard cold stone look. "Did I do something?
Jerard shook his head, "How's your wound?" Jerard whispered.
"It's fine, it's getting better. How is it in there?"
"Like any other jail would be. So how did you escape your mom, to come here?" Jerard smiled.
"I told her I was getting ice-cream with Dj. Actually Dj is sitting with Officer Jill outside." I put my hand on the table and touched his. "I know this might sound weird, but I missed you."
"I get out next week, unless someone pays my payroll money earlier."
"I can do it."
Jerard laughed and looked down at my hand, "Ella even if you could. I wouldn't want you to."
"Oh, well aren't your parents going to do something?"
"My mom will, but my dad can give two rats' asses about what happens to me." Jerard looked behind him and leaned back in his chair, while playing with my hand.
"I can't stay long, but I want to help you."
"How do you plan on doing that?"
"Where would Judson be?"
Jerard leaned towards me and whispered, "Check the bar next to the Johanna's by my house; he's usually there."
"Alright I'll go there, after I drop my sister."
I stood up and turned around to leave, when Jerard walked over and gave me a kiss. We were kissing until, Officer Moores clapped at him. And just before I could turn away from him seeing me blush, he looked up at me with a smile on his face and said. "Sorry, I just had to."
I laughed and walked out of the room; with in mind to prove him innocent.
It was around nine o' clock and I asked my mom to get some milk, since there was none in the house. As I left the driveway, I quickly sped over to the bar Jerard told me about and parked the car under the nearest tree. Then put my hoodie on and walked into the bar.
"Excuse me, but I'm looking for a Judson Mayer?"
The bartender looked up at me and I saw that it was Judson. "I'm him, what is it that you need Miss. Dalgé?"
"I have to ask you a question about the night before you and Jerard found the body of Mr. Stafford?"
Judson put the bottle down and laughed, then turned around and refilled someones drink. "You sound like a detective; you should probably go into that when you grow up."
"Thanks for the suggestion, but I didn't come here to ask you about what I should be when I grow up." Judson shrugged and started wiping down the counter, "You were there with him the entire night. Someone could just easily pin this on you too. Depending on the degree of murder, you are looking to 7 to up to 30 years in prison."
"You really think Jerard would rat out on me? You are over your head, in this game sweetie."
This was starting to get really frustrating that he was turning this into a joke. There was no possible way that me talking to him would solve anything. I got up on the chair and started yelling out, "This guy here is partially responsible for the death of that teacher that taught some of your kids. That teacher, that has a little girl at home; who will never know her father. That teacher-"
Before I could even finish my sentence, Judson picked me up from the chair and carried me outside.
"Put me down, put me down." He finally put me down and threw his towel on the floor. "Aren't you going to need that to continue to wipe the tables down?" I asked slightly out of breath from kicking and screaming.
"ARE YOU INSANE? What if there was a cop in there; you seriously want me to get ruined in this town."
"No, I could care less about you; I just want to help Jerard. Someone you could care less, if rotted in jail." I angrily sighed.
"Dip shit, I care. I just don't care right now." Judson said smoothing his hair out of his face. "Aren't you supposed to be on lockdown? How are you even here?"
"I'm not on lockdown and I can drive something Jerard won't be able to do, if he gets convicted. Just tell the police that you were with him, and help him clear his name."
Judson looked down at the ground and then quickly looked at me, "I can't help you."
"Come on; can you at least tell me who the girls were that you were with?"
"No. Now please don't try and contact me or come to my job, or I'll press charges on you for harassment."
And just like that he turned around and went back into the bar. Leaving me with nothing but a threat of harassment charge.
When I got home my mom was already sleeping and Dj was on the couch with Lilly eating a bowl of ice-cream.
"Hey, ghost. What are you doing here?"
Lilly quickly got up and ran over to me, hugging me and kind of crying/laughing. "I was going to text you, asking if I could sleep over but I didn't want you to not reply; so I decided to come instead. I hope it's ok with you, but I put my stuff in your room."
"It's fine. I haven't seen you in forever."
"I know, I've been at my grandma's house; kind of hiding from the world. My parents aren't even looking at me; they're still shocked that I had an affair with a teacher." Lilly said kind of laughing.
"Well, school doesn't start until next week. So we can just sit on the couch and watch our movie."
"My sister's keeper?"
"You already know," I smiled and put my jacket on the hanger in the closet, next to my door. "Dj are you going to stay with us?"
"No, I can't stand that movie. I can't cry and I feel bad." Dj said running past me and up the stairs.
Around twelve fifteen, Lilly had gone over every single episode she'd missed of Underemployed and Scandal and Deception; since her grandmother had no cable. And around twelve thirty, we had started watching the newest episode of Scandal.
"Do you think the president is hot?" Lilly giggled.
"Of course, he has that whole perfect face structure thing going for him."
Lilly laughed and dug her hand into the bag of Sour Patches; when all of a sudden we heard a knock at the door.
"I'll be back." I said removing the blanket off of me and walking over to the door in my one direction Pajamas.
I opened the door to see Judson's green eyes bore into me. "I got fired thanks to you."
"Am I supposed to care?" I harshly replied.
"Didn't expect you to, but if you want me to help you; you probably should." Judson said still glaring at me. "Nice outfit, it brings out the child in you."
"I'd say the same for you, but I don't have any patience to go back and forth." Judson scoffed and swept his hair out of his eye. "What are you doing here?"
"You asked me if I wanted to help him; and now that I have no job. I might as well help you." Judson said taking a step towards me.
"Are you expecting me to invite you in?"
"Are you expecting me not to think so?"
"Do you not know what time it is? Why would I let you in?"
Judson pulled out his phone and searched through his contacts and put a number in my face, "Because I could call this girl and ask who her friend was. You know the girl who Jerard was with that night. Unless you want me to leave, from all this attitude I'm getting."
"Why should I trust you?"
"Why shouldn't you?"
"Stop this banter; I just want to help Jerard. Not get involved with your stubborn ass-hole self."
Judson just kept this stupid smirk on his face, and turned around and started walking away. I looked behind me at Lilly getting off of the couch, "Ella, I'm going to sleep."
"Ok, I'll be back." I said closing the door behind me and chasing after Judson.
"Who was that?" Judson asked calmly walking to his car.
"Why do you care?"
"Never mind, why are you out here. I thought you didn't want my help. Or better yet know if you can trust me? You should make up your mind doll, because you can't afford to be questioning anything during these times."
"During what times?"
"Hop in doll, I'll show you."
Judson got in his car and started the engine then pulled his window down, "Are you coming or not?"
"You can't or you won't?"
I looked back at my house and checked my pocket for my phone and angrily sighed, then walked over to the passenger's side, and got in. "Make this quick. Please."
"Sweetie, I like to take my time on these kinds of things."
We got to a club and Judson talked to the door person and they let me in, but gave us a time limit.
"So she said that she'd meet you here."
Judson looked down at me and that stupid smirk was back on his face, and his eyes kept on surveying my outfit.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"No reason. Follow me." Judson grabbed my hand and led me up the stairs to a table that you could see the entire club from. "She said that she'd meet us up here." Judson said looking down at the dance floor.
"How old are you?"
"Why does it matter?"
"Why do you always have to find a way to ask me question after I ask you something?"
"21." Judson said while ordering a drink from the waitress passing by. "Do you want something?"
"No thank you." I said looking past Judson at some creepy guy staring at me. "That man is totally freaking me out."
Judson turned around and chuckled, then pulled my chair towards him and put his hand on my thigh. Slowly stroking it. Now I understood how Jerard and him were related; this is something Jerard would do.
"He'll get the hint soon enough," Judson whispered in my ear, dangerously passing my lips.
"God, guys are weird. I'm wearing a One Direction Pajama shirt; you'd think he'd go after someone who at least dresses the part."
"That must mean you're really hot." Judson said taking a sip of his drink.
"Where is this girl?"
"I'm right here; I just didn't know you'd bring guests Judson."
The girl had long brown hair and it was gorgeous and piercing blue eyes and a really tight purple dress on. She was so pretty that she almost reminded me of someone.
"Sorry, didn't think you'd care. Vanessa, this is Ella. Ella this is Vanessa. The girl that you're looking for." Judson said pulling up a chair for her.
"So what do you want?"
"I just want to know, um who um who you um were with um, the night of the teachers death. Um if you remember?" I stuttered.
Judson put his drink down and saw that I was obviously not getting what I wanted to say out. "Who did you hook my cousin up with, that night near the lake?"
"Oh my cousin Lil. Why do you want to know?"
"Do you possibly have a number, I could reach her at?"
Vanessa looked at me then at Judson and laughed, "Are you serious? Sweetie, I don't even know you. Why would I give you my cousin's number?"
"Because she could help out a case that is against our friend."
Vanessa crossed her legs and whispered something in Judson's ear, then turned back to me. "I'm not going to," she was cut off by someone calling her. "Oh wow what a coincidence, she's calling right now."
Vanessa picked the phone up then looked up at Judson and said, "Have fun with that case of yours. Because I won't be helping you." Then she walked away with the phone in her hand.
The entire car ride back to my house was quiet, and I wasn't planning on breaking it either. Judson finally pulled into my driveway and turned off the car.
"Thanks for the help." I said angrily opening the car door and making my way to my door, before Judson stopped me.
"I'll keep trying; Vanessa will give in sooner or later." Judson said still holding onto my arm.
"It doesn't matter, I'm no cop and no cop in this city gives a rat's ass if that kid spends the rest of life in prison. And I can't change that." I looked up at Judson and saw that that stupid smirk was back on his face. "Please stop smiling and let go of me."
"I'm not smiling; I'm just surprised that you would go through all that trouble; just to give up now?"
"Please let go of me," I said out of energy.
"I'll only let go, if you promise to not give up."
I sighed and groaned, but I couldn't give up; not yet at least. "Fine, I won't give up."
"Good." Judson let go of my arm and opened his car door, but turned around and said something else. "Her name is Lilly; she goes to your school. I think in your grade."
I ran back towards him and slapped his chest, "How come you didn't tell me this before?"
"Vanessa told me, while we were at the table. I don't really know how much that helps but it gives you something to go off of."
"Yeah, well there's nine Lilly's at my school and four in my grade. So it's not much, but thank you."
I took a step closer to him and hugged him, "But you're in this with me."
"I don't think your boyfriend would like you hugging me." Judson laughed; making his warm breath hit my face.
I pulled away and patted his chest, "Jerard's not my boyfriend."
Then I walked into my house and slid myself against the front door. Only to be scared by Lilly sitting at the bottom of the stairs, staring straight into my eyes. "Oh my gosh," I said holding my chest to catch my breath. "Lilly you scared the hell out of me."
Lilly made her way towards me, and then her sad expression turned to an expression of hiding something. "Who was that with you outside?"
Her harsh tone scared me, which I believe my hands were shaking. "Why do you want to know? Are you okay Lilly?"
"ANSWER THE QUESTION DANIELLA!" She shouted at me and I jumped back, then her eyes softened and she touched my arm. I quickly backed up and she lowered her voice, but in the same harsh tone asked. "Who was that with you outside?"
"His name is Judson."
Lilly didn't say anything and just went into the kitchen and I made my way up the stairs, but feeling that someone was watching me.
