I didn't always write for living. (Writers don't usually make that much as it is in the first place.) No, I had/have a less glamorous job. I worked on pipe construction when I was in Russia. It looks as a surprise especially if you take a good look at me. I usually am clean and nearly dressed. The image of me in a work suit covered in grease and dirt is the far from anyone's mind. Yet, it is true. My husband is proud of what I do.
My husband and I both work. I work at Tokyo-Zion Academy during the summer. In the winter, it's back to my old job. Only this time, it's in Japan. Now, I know what you are thinking. How did a woman like you come to work with the pipes, Polly-san? Quite an interesting story, to tell you the truth. My family and I moved quite a few times. We lived in America and Ukraine. In my earlier years, I was somewhat of a child star in America. But, those years vanished and I had to face reality. I got married at a young age for those who didn't read my profile. I was still in high school, in fact. My husband provided for me until I graduated a semester early. By the age of eighteen, I looked for a job to help send me to college. At the time, I lacked the skills to do much. It took me about six months to land my first job.
I walked at McDonalds near the college of my second choice. I worked the drive-thru at the night shift. Fun times to be had there. See Dan Cook's joke about working the drive-thru at Burger King, only in Russian for me. Oh yes, that bad. Mind you, my husband insisted on covering my college fees. I did take them, but I vowed to myself that I wouldn't rely heavily on his money alone. I wanted my impendence. My husband did support this notion of mine. "Two incomes coming into the house are better, anyway," he told me. Understandable man when he's not looking at/writing porn.
Shortly after a couple of months, McDonalds didn't really help me out. So, I started looking for a second job while I was in college. Again, I didn't have much luck with the way my life and schedule went. In the summer, I came across a Pipe facility company in the paper. Now, I wasn't really good with mechanics at the time, but over the course of my freshman year in college, I had become quite good with my hands. (No, not in that way! Perverts!) I didn't really think much about the add in the beginning. But after a few more looks in the paper, what other choice did I have? A job is a job and until I had some better skills, I had to take what I could get. So, I called up the place and told them I was interested in applying there. At the time, I still sounded like I was in high school. The manager asked how old I was. I told him I was nineteen. I explained my whole situation to him. At first, he didn't sound so sure about whether or not to turn me away. "And you're sure you want to do this?" he asked. I told him that I was. He finally told me to come in and pick up a job application. To make a long story short, I got the application and filled it out. Despite does about my appearance, (I still looked like I was in high school at the time) they called me in for the interview. To my surprise due to my lack of experience, I landed the job. By the time I was twenty, I quit my McDonalds job and committed myself to the pipe system job. Now, I do have some ups and downs with some of the girls there, but that's for the later essays on this section.
