The Threat of Hiding

A shadow is dark.

It hides,

Possesses,

Creeps.

When others see sun,

You just see a thin line of blackness,

Stretching all the way to your feet.

A person walks past,

Their shoulder brushing yours,

The only contact.

You are invisible,

An obstacle to which they cannot put a name

Or a face.

Can you see theirs?

The darkness obliterates

What uniqueness the person is entitled to.

It is only harder to see

And be seen

If you're standing in someone else's shadow.

Move your legs

And be blinded by the sun

For one brief moment.

Then truly look.

You will see

And be seen.

But you must believe.
