So, in language arts class we read "Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket" by Jack Finney. One of the after-you-read questions was "Write a paragraph about a suspenseful situation." I decided to write about something that had happened after marching band practice a few days before. The person I was trying to scare is the same boy from "Last Day" and "Two Hundred Days".

I stood there, behind the door, muscles tensed. Peering through the small crack between the wall and the end of the door, I watched carefully as the other members of the HHS marching band walked by. Occasionally, one would notice me, the strange girl hiding behind the locker room door, but the person I was looking for hadn't made an appearance yet.
"What are you doing?" A voice demanded. A girl, who I assumed possessed said voice, was standing next to the door with that familiar what-the-heck-is-wrong-with-you expression on her face.
"I'm trying to scare someone!" I whispered, urgently motioning for her to get back. I could hear his voice –he was probably helping to put yard markers away– and I knew that he'd be here any second.
"Who are you trying to scare?" The girl wondered. He was heading toward the locker room now. Catching the girl's eye again, I waved frantically, trying desperately to make her go away. Finally, she got the message, and stepped out of sight.
Through the crack in the door, I could clearly see his face. I hesitated, one second, two, and then leaped forward, catching him by surprise.
"BOO!"
