Andrea

Andrea leapt from her perch on the window, feeling the air zip past her as she braced herself for the coming fall.

"After her!" she heard the lead scientist order when her feet hit the packed earth, her knees bent to absorb the fall. When the initial shock was over, she took off running as fast as she could, pushing past people on the streets as the lab rat guards came out of nowhere in a hot pursuit.

"Out of the way!" she heard the scientist cry as citizens leapt out of the way, terrified of the criminal now sprinting for her life. Andrea grit her teeth as she took a sharp corner, ignoring the cars racing about on the busy street as she ran straight out into the middle. The vehicles tried to stop as the pale, unblemished test subjects followed her, but it was no use. They slammed on their breaks at the last minute, colliding with each other as Andrea jumped up onto the hood of one of the floating vehicles before taking a flying leap.

As if in slow motion one of the guards pulled the trigger on his weapon, smirking as it skimmed her shoulder, tearing into her flesh. Andrea let out a cry of pain as she landed on the hard concrete, rolling a few paces before leaping back to her feet and taking off, holding her burning shoulder as blood leaked out.

"Shit," she swore, shoving a larger man out of the way as the guards open fired, not seeming to care if they hit anyone else in the busy cityscape. As Andrea sprinted past the people, all of them looked at her with blank expressions not fazed at all that gunmen were firing at her and accidentally hitting others in the process.

Andrea felt a shiver run up her spine as she saw the pale colors of their unseeing eyes.

They weren't human anymore.

Maybe at one time, but no longer did they have free will.

They were just plastic pawns for the scientists now.

Andrea wiped the sweat and blood from her face, feeling the sting in her shoulder every time she pumped her arm, but she refused to give up.

They wouldn't take her.

They would not change her like they had changed the other people.

She hadn't been watching where she was going when she ran out into the intersection, and this time the car didn't stop.

She was dead.

She had to be dead.

She felt the blood. The world was spinning as darkness crept over her like a suffocating nightmare. Yet they hadn't caught her, and they never would now that she was dying.

All Andrea could do was smile.

A/N: Well I spontaneously wrote this while listening to a weird techno song.

This is set in a science ficiton world I'm building for another book I hope to one day finish and publish.

I won't say much else just that the humans in the story are "changed" by evil scientists.

Andrea will be in the book, herm...I don't really know how she fits just yet. Remember, this was spontaneous.
