Mama, Have You No Shame

The day it happened

Still stains my mind

And makes me want to cry.

You were being unreasonable

And wouldn't listen to what I was trying to say.

Your excuse doesn't matter. You shouldn't have hit me.

The whole campground watched you do it

And watched me cry

As I ran to the camper, wanting to hide.

On my way to the camper,

I passed Grandma and Grandpa by

They yelled, said I deserved it, made me feel as if I had no right to cry.

I called Daddy

And he took me away

Because I didn't want to stay.

You humiliated me.

You caused me pain.

Mama, have you no shame?
