Beauty in Shadow

While reading Byron's "She walks in Beauty" I composed this. To clarify, the poem in question is hauntingly beautiful, but I believe anything that walks like the night can have no innocence to it. The night's Beauty is a cold, dark, and mysterious one. So I wrote this as a rebuttal to Byron, despite him having my highest respect. Cheers, Riyin Nos Reche

Beauty in Shadow

In verses clear yet so sublime,

A man once said of what is right

Of his mistress of dark and piercing eyes,

"She walks in Beauty, like the night"

Yet for the splendor of her face,

And all the virtues he may surmise,

I see in her no saving Grace,

No Virtue cool or clear or wise

For behind a lover's back a dagger hides

Gleaming, cold, yet clear and bright

And so I warn of Byron's prize

"She walks in Shadow, like the night."
