If Trouble Had a Name, Buck Would Be It
Thirty minutes later Principle Jefferson walked out of his office. Jamie was sent to the nurse's office.
"Nikki, I talked to your dad. He'll talk to you later but Judy's coming to pick you up," he started.
"What, no! Please, please, no!" Nikki yelled surprising Amber and the principle, "I'll do anything just don't make me go anywhere with her!"
"Nikki, is something wrong?" Jefferson asked leaning forward.
Nikki set his jaw and replied, "No, nothing's wrong."
He stood up and grabbed his backpack. He headed for the door and was halfway down the hall before Jefferson realized what was going on.
"Nikki! Come back here!" Jefferson screamed running after him.
Amber stood up and snuck outside. Judy's car drove up and she realized something inhuman about her.
She froze but then continued shaking her head in disbelief. There was no way she was what she thought she was.
She turned around to find Judy walk calmly in the school. Amber noticed that she was shaking and it wasn't because she was cold.
She was running now and kept looking back as if being followed.
Turn back! Her conscience practically screamed at her, you know that feeling! Nikki needs you!
The thought sent shivers down her spine. Something she hasn't felt since she left her planet to deliver her father's message.
Now she did and for some reason regrets it. Was it that human boy, Nikki? She doubted it but crazier things have happened. Something about him just seemed different than all the other humans but what? And what was this feeling she has around Judy? She needed answers and Nikki will give them to her… eventually.
She ran in the woods shaking and would've kept going had not a hand grabbed her and yanked her down.
"Aii!" she yelled landing on her knees.
"What do you want?" Nikki asked landing down beside her and she had a feeling he wasn't talking to her.
A foot came down and kicked his side. He flipped over and she couldn't hear him breathe for a while.
"Are you okay," she gasped only to get kicked by their kidnapper.
She heard her ribs crack and cringed but it didn't hurt- not really.
Nikki laid his hand on her side and gasped, "You're bleeding!" only to get kicked again.
"SHUT UP!" a gruff voice yelled causing Amber to look up.
A short fat man dressed in all brown was standing over them. Even though he had a hat you could tell he was bald.
Amber crawled over to Nikki and shook him but didn't speak. He looked at her and mouthed, "I'm sorry." This time though he didn't get kicked.
"Name's Buck," the fat man introduced after he tied Nikki and Amber's hands and had them walking, "and don't even think about running, wouldn't get very far you two."
This made Nikki give out a short bitter laugh and Amber wandered what was so funny.
Apparently, Buck was thinking the same thing, "Oy boy, what's so funny."
When Nikki didn't answer Buck grabbed his shirt collar and yanked down causing Nikki to gag. Amber ground her teeth together, her ribs already healed.
"You're lucky boy because you're going to give Buck a quick buck," Buck whispered in the boy's ear causing him to tense.
"Now move!" Buck yelled pushing him forward.
Nikki caught himself and kept moving and Amber was very impressed how he's able to keep his cool in the worst times.
Nikki cast a glance at Amber and was surprised to find that she was smiling despite being held captive.
Buck seemed happily distracted whistling. His words still echoed in his head, you're going to give buck a quick buck. What's so lucky about that?
Then realization hit. He was going to sell Nikki to his dad or Judy and keep Amber! Anger rose up in his throat and he turned around on Buck and used his bond hands to whack Buck's cheek bone. He heard a crack and Buck pulled out a gun on Nikki.
"Don't make me use this boy!" he warned and Nikki shrunk back but Amber caught on.
She jumped on Buck and twisted the gun but not before he shot it. At first she feared it hit Nikki but then he punched again and Buck fell down.
Buck gained control of the gun again and shot at Amber. It hit her side and she fell backward.
Nikki hit the gun out of Buck's hands and ran over to Amber. With trembling fingers Nikki untied Amber's hands.
"Look out," she gasped and something hard fell on Nikki's head.
It knocked him silly for a while and all he could see was red. He heard Amber gasp and then he could see everything clearer.
He turned around and knocked Buck out before he grabbed Amber and ran. She wasn't bleeding anymore- must be an alien thing- but he could tell that it hurt.
"Ow. Ow. OW!" she screamed and he stopped.
"You're hurt?" he asked setting her down.
"I'll be fine. You?" she asked clutching her side.
"I've been worse."
"Hah, now would be a good time for you to tell me why you constantly run from Judy and what your dad met when he said you haven't been the same since they found you in a coma," she pointed out.
"Well I was eight and I saw Judy kill my mom and then two months later I went in the forbidden woods and woke up in my room two weeks later."
"You saw her kill your mother?" she asked.
He looked up at her and nodded, "Come on, let's go."
"Go where?" she asked surprised.
"Home," he whispered and actually smiled one of his rare but adorable smile.
Is it true, she thought to herself, I've never grown feelings for anyone? Can I actually grow feelings for someone, but that's impossible.
