be us without me

it would only ever be dark; ever be today.

don't you know? they understand

that what they see under our public light

is as fake as the colours we play in.

still, you stand tall, eagerly awaiting the fireworks of tomorrow.

i curl, all eyes and writhing in tonight's shadows.

you lose your feet in our light again, this time landing eyes to the stars and blinding yourself.

(my heart lovebeats its last.)

and when the faces finally turn and it's safe to be subtle,

you subtly yell

"WE DON'T NEED TO HIDE!"

eyes meet, but not with ours.

curiously, then, do you realize you're one short of we.

that sort of subtlety doesn't secure - light alone violates us!

blind, limp, and loud do not provide to the us we trust is hidden in plain sight!

what was ours, shared and requited, is yours.

love was years behind, yet caged us well.

satisfied, it releases me; turns to feed on you alone.

love itself will not be confined, but too often are we trapped within it.
