Rule number One: Do not find their brother attractive

I am Alyssa Hargrove and this is my rule guide to being a good best friend, Rule number one: don't find their brother attractive...I don't know how I managed to go from this first rule to waking up in said brother's bed. Rule five: do not lie to your best friend. Okay guys...I seem to be on some sort of streak of rule breaking here. Don't follow my lead. DO NOT FALL FOR YOUR BEST FRIENDS BROTHER.

"Alyssa you aren't even listening to me," Ana Scott whined making me snap out of my day dream. Where to start with Ana, we had been best friends for years. Since nursery. She was the most cynical person I knew, but she helped keep me grounded when I started to get big headed. Put me in my place when I was being a bitch. Her brother Cole was my epitome of perfect. Deep dark brown eyes, equally as dark slightly shaggy hair and broad shoulders. I let a small sigh escape my lips and my whole face began to heat up with embarrassment. Ana scowled at me.

"I swear you do that to me all the time! Glad to know my conversation is boring you," She said her eyebrows raised. I smiled apologetically.

"Sorry Ana," I mumbled. She rolled her eyes.

"Anyway as I was saying, Eddie was checking me out. When Britney was right there! He is such a sleaze ball! anyway Jason's party is this weekend and I'm not going but I told him you'd be there soo...you are going in my place," she said grinning at me. I closed my eyes counting to ten. Do not get angry.

"Why did you say I would go?" I asked calmly trying to keep my composure. Ana raised an eyebrow.

"You know that one of us has to go, so I think it should be you. I'm sure Cole will take you he will be going anyway," she said. I let out a low groan.

"But Jason's party. Ana you know I can't stand him," I whined. Ana let out a chuckle.

"But he looooooves you," she mocked.

"Who loves her?" Cole asked sitting down beside his sister. Cole Scott was Ana's twin brother. Unlike most twins they actually adored each other. The two were probably the most devious pair in the school. Ana smirked at me turning to her brother.

"Jason, I just told Al that she is on party duty with you," she said. Cole grinned.

"Oooooh Alyssa, we could just skip the party," he teased winking at me. Ana laughed elbowing him.

"You leave my friend alone Cole," she said ruffling his hair.

I sighed glaring at Ana.

"Why can't you be normal siblings and hate each other?" I whined. Cole smirked at me his brown eyes locking onto my green. I ducked my head trying not to blush. I never blushed god damn it!

"Does my presence unnerve you, Alyssa?" He drawled lowly his voice raising the hairs on my neck. I scoffed flipping my hair over my shoulder expertly.

"No, it irritates me," I said screwing up my face. Ana rolled her eyes staring at us both in amusement.

"I find it cute that you get so flustered, it is so obvious that you like me," Cole said confidently. Ana and I looked at each other and burst into laughter. Cole narrowed his eyes.

"What the hell is so funny? What I don't meet your standards? I forget queen Alyssa has such good taste " He hissed.

I rolled my eyes.

"No stupid, it's because you are Ana's brother!" I said in my duhhhhh tone, I mean...it was was obvious. Cole furrowed his eyebrows.

"I don't see how that would stop you liking me, which we all know you do," he drawled imitating my hair flip. I scowled at him.

"I do not like you. It is like the major rule of friendship. Like Ana would never like my brother either," I said shrugging my shoulders. Ana laughed turning back to her salad. Cole smirked.

"That is only because he is a teacher not because it is your brother," he said raising an eyebrow. I shook my head.

"You can't like your best friends brother, it's a rule" I said. Cole frowned.

"So you are saying I can't get with any of Ana's friends? Because It rules out a lot of people," he muttered. I nodded.

"Tough luck big guy," I said smirking back at him. He narrowed his eyes.

"I think it's a very unfair rule," he said his eyebrows raised.

"What's an unfair rule?" Glen asked sliding in beside me.

"Alyssa was telling me how it is against the rules to like your best friends brother," Cole replied. Glen raised his eyebrows turning to face Ana and coughing loudly.

"Is that just because she wants you and doesn't want to admit it?" He asked. Cole smirked raising his eyebrows.

"She is just in denial, I mean look at me" he teased. My ears burned red and I scowled standing up.

"Get over yourself Cole, I don't find you attractive," I said confidently grabbing my books. But even as I said it I found myself staring at his lips. I shook my head turning my back on them.

"I will see you tonight Ana, pick me up at six," I said winking at her. Ana nodded giving me a big smile. Cole stood up.

"I will walk you, I have football anyway. You can get a lift home with me," he said. I let out a low groan as I walked towards the door my heels clicking on the floor. I heard Ana's tinkling laugh follow me into the hallway. I was soo glad the bitch was enjoying my suffering. Cole slung his arm over my shoulder grinning at me.

"Hey baby," he said suggestively, wiggling his eyebrows. I scowled at him trying to ignore the fact my stomach was heating up. Damn teenage hormones. Cole smirked at me leading me towards the locker rooms

"Got that tight little uniform Alyssa? Can't wait to watch tonight's practice," he teased. Now don't get the wrong impression. I'm not your average popular teenager. I don't cheerlead, mostly because I am not American. I run track, cross country and do hurdles. I rolled my eyes flipping him off and disappearing into the girls lockers.

This is how I am meant to be. It is what I meant to be doing. Sprinting as fast as I can the wind in my hair. I exhaled picking up my pace as we were reaching the hurdles. My lungs were beginning to burn, as we're the muscles in my legs. I surged forward. No way was anyone going to beat me. I kicked up my leg throwing myself over the first hurdle and quickly over the second before picking up my pace to reach the third. Just a few more steps. Then I saw him, Cole. At the side lines watching us run. I lost my concentration for a split second. But that was all it took to make me lose balance and crash to the side. I gritted my teeth as my blunder let Chloe over take me. I stood up kicking the ground and storming to the locker rooms. I did NOT like to lose. Who did Cole even think he was, turning up to watch our practice. Who was he to distract me? Who was he to worm his way under my skin? I hated him.

So why did my heart race faster when he came into view?
