What is war?
Is war a story?
What could it be?
Could it be a poem,
For you and for me?
Or maybe a legend
Of old world affairs
Told in a world
Where no one cares?
Is war a painting?
What could you see?
Men with bright weapons,
Sitting under a tree?
Or maybe a field
Covered in red?
Or filled with white crosses
Were may lie dead?
Is war song?
What can you hear?
At the end many people
Letting out a great cheer?
Or maybe a slow
Monotonous beat,
Made by the sounds
Of marching feet?
My daddy said war
Was a ravenous beast
That calls out young men
To its bloody feast.
My mummy said war
Should not exist
She said even animals
Don't come to this.
My brother said war
Was like a big party
And that is why he
Signed up for the army,
My sister said war
Is stupid and wrong
She says its wars fault
That our brother has gone.
My teacher says war,
Is a clashing of wills
Some far off battle,
In some far off hills,
My grandma say war
Will happen again
That history and future
Will be just the same.
But I say if the world
Just stood up and saw
How much better life would be
Without any war
Then maybe this madness
Would come to an end
We could stand hand in hand
With the world as our friend!
So sisters and teachers
Should come together
With parent and brothers
To make the world better.
If united we stand
Together are we
So just take my hand
And we'll make the world see!
