Bonfire
The rusty silver glider squeaks in protest
as I rock back and forth
All the while the ashes leap into the sky
My father is out searching for more wood
It is just me and flame and metal on that night
the images forever burned into my mind
of sparks soaring into the blackness
flame and sky reaching so desperately for each other
and I wondered
Will I ever touch my sky
