As I was leaving the cafe on First St I past my mother's work place. She wouldn't tell me much about it, but only thing was that it was taller than any other building in the whole city.
If I could, and if I wanted to, I could see her, but unfortunately she's on the top floor. If you count the roof a floor then total was 40 floors. It was an everyday occurrence when somebody falls from the top floor, but it's not every day where they regret it.
In my case, today was the day. I was pasting by mother's work, she sees me, and yells my name.
"Arianna, there you are!" She gasps grabbing my shoulders "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, mother." I smiled like a fool
'What happened?' I asked myself wondering why mother was so concerned about me.
"Ok, because some man yelled on the roof that he was going to jump, and you're the reason why." My mother points up to the roof.
There were people gathering around the area, and police were already on scene. One of the police officers yelled with an intercom in his vice grip.
"Sir, think about what you're doing! You have your whole life a head of you!"
"Adrian!" I yelled as loud as I could to grab his attention "What are you thinking?"
"Aria…" His tone became soft then before I knew it he falls over the edge.
"ADRIAN!" I scream on the top of my lungs "Someone please get something to stop him!"
As the world was going in slow motion I go to where he's supposed to fall attempting to catch him. If my plan sounded so dumb to others I think it's the only way he'll live now.
As time picks its pace up I feel a thump to my arms causing me to fall back. I felt like a whole lot of weight was added. My eyes were shut then quickly opened when I felt a hand on my cheek.
"Adrian?" I whispered as his hand caressed my cheek "Are you alive?"
"Yeah, I am… I'm sorry…" He said as his body begins to grow colder 'I wish I could've thought about life more… more with you and maybe family of our own…"
"Adrian… you need to stay with me!" I began to shed some tears "What changed your mind?"
"I heard a phone ring and someone said... 'I think I love you, Arianna.'" He smiled weakly as he wiped my tears with his hand "I wish I had the guts to tell you how I really felt about you…"
"I wish I could have stopped you sooner." I began to choke on my words as they were coming out "I-can't… I want- you to live!"
"I want to too." He said as the doctors lifted him out of my arms and into the ambulance and I was determined to see him again.
If it was creepy enough the chill of the air as I walked to the hospital gave me goose bumps. Adrian and I have been best friends since we were 11 years old. I never thought one day he loved me the way he loves me now. I had a crush on him for so long, but seeing him with other girls… didn't help me at the time.
'What made Adrian think suicide… why would he come to me if he loved me?' I asked myself as I reached the hospital entrance 'I'm guessing I'll found out myself.'
As I walked in to the hospital; at the front desk is woman in her early 50s wearing an all black outfit saw me. She had blonde hair, green eyes, her face was so wrinkled. She looked familiar, but I could pinpoint her.
"Welcome Arianna." She smiled at me
I looked at her like she was crazy. She quickly picked up that I didn't know who she was.
"You might not recognize me, but I'm Adrian's mother."
"Oh! I didn't recognize you!" I gasped then I realized about Adrian "I'm so sorry!"
"It's ok, Arianna." She patted my shoulder ""If it wasn't for you, he wouldn't be alive."
"You're serious?" I dropped my jaw "All I did was catch him!"
"I know, but your catch made him lose his breath...if you weren't there he would have been dead!"
"Why thanks." I slightly showed a smile "Do you know what room he's in?"
"Yes…" She gave me a key "On the seventh floor, 707."
"Thanks." I waved bye to her and had a little pip in my step as I walked to Adrian's room, knowing I'm the reason he's alive.
Once I got out of the elevator, I walked to the front desk and saw her obnoxious smile.
"I have special access to see Adrian Levy in 707." I smirked with my arms on the desk; folded, showing her the key I had, basically waving it in her face "Can I see him, please?"
"Seeing you have a key to his room and you look like you're ready to knock anybody out who's in your way…" She pointed straight to my left in a room "He's in that room."
"Thanks." I smiled as I walked over to his room.
The door wasn't locked, so I entered in quietly. The room was plain white, with a T.V directly in front of the bed high up on the wall. When I saw the bed, I saw Adrian hooked up to a machine to help him breathe.
I always shed or a tear or two when somebody was in the hospital, family member ,friend or me, but this was my life lying right in front of me…I didn't simply shed a tear or two…no… I damn near cried.
"How dumb could I have been to not see the signs that you loved me more than a brother…?" I grabbed a chair and sat at his bedside. "How can I ever say that I'm sorry because I'm sorry won't cut it now."
That's when my tears started falling on their own. I haven't cried that hard in years after my father died… which was 7 years ago. As if my world was crumbling I felt a hand on my cheek. I opened my red eyes to Adrian looking at me.
"Don't cry, honey." He spoke softly, groaning as he sat up in bed "You don't need to worry anymore."
"Adrian!" I gasped as I hugged him, not tightly, but enough that I knew that has was alive "You scared the living hell out of me!"
"I'm sorry that I did." He said hugging me back "I should've told you and maybe I wouldn't do what I did."
"You're damn straight you wouldn't!" I gave him my most pissed off look ever "If you were feeling the way you were… you could've talked to someone instead of killing yourself!"
"I know that now, but if I came and told you… I thought you would reject me on the spot." He looked at me with the most sincere face he could muster.
"You know, I wouldn't have…" I said as his face began to light up and I began to look down "I've been in love with you since I met you… and because you're a guy… I thought you would reject me…"
"I wouldn't…" He said, picking my face up to look at him "I guess we both fell for each other."
"Yeah, I guess we did." I smiled as I leaned in and kissed him.
He kissed me back and that's when our lives together would start.
