Children from my early years sung this rhyme. Though through the ages, the poem and myth have faded, he still lurks in the darkness of your closet.

The Boogeyman

By J. Sabo

I hear a bump in the dead of the night,

So loud that I'm in fright,

I check out the window and under my bed,

It may be nothing, a thought in my head,

But I wake to the noises that I hear,

And I know it's the thing I most fear,

They say he's just a scary story,

Nothing more than a phony,

One place to check,

Chills running through my neck,

I open my closet with the twist of my hand,

And I'll find him standing there, the Boogeyman.
