Stand Down
The shot rang out and found its mark
Buried deep in his family's heart
And so they suffer on and on
Their love – brother – father – son…he's gone.
He marches to Heaven's golden gates
His soul stained with the scars of fate
He has seen carnage worse than he should bear
And now he's gone, how will his comrades fare?
Our hope from earth to him on high
Is that God welcomes him, for on him lie
The gratitude and grief of so many left behind
Humbled by the loyalty he showed humankind
Now that his fighting is done and his lifeblood shed
He remains in memories, although he's dead
He's a hero now in his home country and town
So go on, soldier, it's your time – stand down
