Innocent Eyes

A poem about some serious insecurities I've had, especially as I've grown as a high school student and as a person. Especially good, I think, for teenagers and young adults. WARNING! emotions.

Innocent Eyes

Just some things I've really dealt with in my life, especially pretty recently :/ It's a pretty tough subject for me, but I managed to get it out in this poem. It's actually a bit shorter than I wanted. Hope you review.

Innocent eyes
What a suprise

They live in a fishtank, you see
God and she
Fish under the sea
Under sorely humanitites scrutiny

Surely they cannot know
How she takes the blow
Not of their crushing, calling crows
But of her own

She's so happy outside
Makes life look like an easy ride
But inside comes the tide
Of someone she can only hide

The hidden is cold
And so unbold
She only holds
That darkness untold

And she cannot tell
For she would break the spell
Of the strength she dispells
And of how she keeps well

She locks away
Every hate and dismay
To never see the light of day
But alone they come to play

She makes it through the days
With a smile on her face
They don't know how it's fragile like a vase
Have they ever thought it fake?

She is one to rely on in times of doubt
One to lean on in emotionless drought
When they want to fade out
She is the hideout

She takes all the burdens and bears all the scars
Of those who cannot do it themselves
She only cares for how they are
And she's always quite a bit bizarre

She's joyful and happy and oh so sweet
No one could guess what lies underneath
Insecure and lonely with a silent weep
Pleading for someone to dive deep

Searching for one to see through her act
See through the fake smiles and through the tact
To see deep inside to find the facts
That she isn't wholey unbroken, not wholey uncracked

She takes care of so many, she wishes please
That she could only find someone for she
Someone to lean on and give her ease
Someone who sees

That she can't always be perfect and can't always be right
And even in all of her built up might
She's frightened of losing those who make her shine bright
And falling into the night

They never suspect and they think it's a must
That being around them, they're the one that she trusts
She is not hateful and not unjust
But trust is not something in which one can be thrust

She's never quite sure and never quite known
And questioned herself right down to the bone
Do they truly want her or do they secretly moan
Wishing she could have flown

To some other towns and some other places
With unknown people and unknown faces
Others who she could chase
And never ever find them or follow their traces

And no matter what they say, she still feels alone
A girl so small in a world so grown
And it isn't what they've done, but what of her own
That's brought her here, messily thrown

It's on herself she lays the blame
For being so stupid and being so lame
All she knows is that internal shame
And wishes that she wasn't the same

She's dreams of a life where she isn't a bore
Scary and odd and overbearing and more
Wishes for a place where there wasn't a war
Between herself and those feelings locked away in her drawer

And she knows no one feels what she feels inside
Past the courage and past the pride
And she knows no one sees the shadows in her eyes
And it's the happy little girl that everyone buys

She loves others true, but she feels not the trend
That to love others, first she must love her own skin
However she ignores it, giving all the love she can
But in the end, if love's going out, hate can only go in

Within she's unstable
And seemingly unable
Of throwing away the fable
That keeps her disabled

From believing in the amazing person she's always been
And believing there are those who love her through thick and thin
Those who can't think of her without grin
And to them she brings anything but chagrin

Don't be mistaken though, she stll knows truth
And she does have a genuine side with a cheery sweet tooth
She loves all she knows with no untruth
Taking their own wrinkles and making them smooth

And sometimes her smiles aren't lies after all
Lies that stands as masks or walls
But true little treats that could make the great fall
And joy that says "Yes, she can take the long haul."

And she knows real happiness and feels real cheer
And she always says she's so happy to be here
Maybe she just needs somone to help comandeer
The feelings inside, built up in a tier

And one day, she thinks, maybe she'll be fine
And maybe she'll find someone who will lay on the line
And help to fix was has been unaligned
And take her fully completed onto Cloud Nine

Still she doesn't quite know yet how to deal
To find the true from the false and the fake from the real
And how to face the fire and the iron and steel
But one day, it's inevitable-

She can only heal.
