Prologue

Things happen for a reason. My mom has always told me this, but I still don't accept that. If things "happen for a reason," then why am I the only kid in my grade that hasn't had their first kiss? Which wouldn't be that bad, if I wasn't a junior in high school. Why am I the kid out of my multi-talented family who isn't good at anything? But most of all, why do I feel like I'm the only one in the world without a purpose? This isn't a sob story though about a miserable kid. This is the story of a miserable kid who made himself a purpose in life, and who totally rocked at it, and it all started here, in mountain ridge, Missouri. I'm guessing you never heard of it, that's kind of the intention.

We had only moved out here about four years ago. We being my mom, my brother, my sister and I. my mom never explained why we moved. Were we where before, we had a nice house, great friends and she always reminded us about how much she loved the weather there. Then after our step dad died. We just packed up and left. Ever since, my life has been a living hell. That's more then I can say for my brother and sister though. Danielle, who is just now starting freshmen year, has already managed to make an impression. Varsity softball captain, student council, and even rumors of dating some upperclassmen, yeah she's living the good life. It probably helped that she was related to another popular kid in school. Not me of course. I'm talking about my brother Connor. He graduated 3 years ago and yet he still has a impression at school. The best quarterback the mountain ridge wildcats have ever had, he broke several school and state records before leaving off to college. But I still have a feelings he's doing way more then getting a degree. Enough with the family drama guess I should get to what you want to know. Where I'm going with this.

Marissa, my best friend, who despite being pretty popular herself, and insanely gorgeous, respects me as a human being. We started off the day with our basic routine. Meeting up at the small corner store in the morning and walking to school together, discussing the "exciting" things that happened the night before. We walked into school, and headed for the cafeteria, when the strangest announcement came on over the intercom.

"Will all students please report to the grand stadium, please move in a quick and orderly fashion" the principal said.

"Another pep rally?" I joked. 'It seems like we have one every week.'

"Yeah, but this wasn't planned." Marissa responded. I guess I forgot to mention she was also apart of student council. In our curiosity, we followed the crowd to the outside football stadium to find out what this was about. It was so crowded, but within 15 minutes we found two open seats near the bottom of the 30 or so row bleachers.

"Any ideas who's hosting this pep rally?" I asked.

"Nope" she said with a smile. "But looks like were about to find out."

Just then, someone I've never seen before walked out into the field; he was at the half yard like but only about 20 feet away from the sidelines closest to the bleachers. Wearing a dark grey suit and black shades, he looked very mysterious, the tall dark and handsome ones girls only dream about. In fact, the only thing bright about him was his long blonde hair in a loose ponytail.

"Looks like another senator or something has come to talk about his goals" I whispered to Marissa.

"Trust me, this is not a political mission" he responded. At least I think he responded. From here I couldn't see his mouth move, and it looked like Marissa didn't notice him speak either. It only made me wonder more, who the hell was this guy. Then, I know for a fact. He started to speak.

"Hi. My name is Zelos. And despite what some of you are… thinking. I am not here on a political mission, sports recruitment or crime related matter" he said with a smirk. And with that smirk. Winds of whispers went flying around the stands, kids wondering how he knew what they were thinking. Was it just a coincidence? Lucky guess? Or was he some sort of psychic? These possibilities began to swirl around my brain as he began to speak again.

"I am here on a more important matter, something involving you, your family, and everyone you know, and don't know" what was this guy talking about, I thought. "and if anyone wants to know what I'm talking about, I suggest you keep an open mind, and listen carefully to my new few words" he spoke in such a way like he was having a conversation, a personal one with just me. " 99% of you don't know this, but the world you know, is but a mirror of the one you don't. What I mean by this is earth, has a twin sister." The stands were completely silent. Everyone's gaze stuck on the mysterious person telling us what seemed like a fairytale. "let me continue, your twin sister and earth are directly intertwined, the good that happens here, environmentally, whether natural disasters, pollution, or war. Affect your twin, who we call Aurora. The negative energy transfers to us as negative energy, and the positive energy transfers to us as positive energy. And vice versa. Despite several wars and disasters you've faced, you've still maintained good overall health. Which in turn, has given us positive energy. And we have done the same for you, but that's in danger of coming a disastrous, which WILL lead to the end of both our worlds.

This is the reason I am here. on Aurora, things are different, while your world has stronger connection to the mechanicals, the science, the discovery of everything. Aurora has taken a turn in the opposite direction. We are spiritually designed society, who uses the most basic elements for our survival. We have learned to control and master these to lead aurora to a peaceful society. But with this great power, comes great danger. A revolt, a terrorist attack, by one of the most powerful masters of these elements has taken a stand against our way of life. Which does threaten our existence. He is very powerful with many followers, who believe he will lead us to a new age. Which we know is an age of destruction. Like your military here, aurora always has a defense force The Council is what has kept our world safe for generations. But this is something even they cant fight alone. That's why we have come here. There are three powerful forces here. Three who has possesses the ability to control what normal humans cannot, the power to control auroraian elements. Which the elders believe on aurora is a sign, that a new age will not come through war, but through saviors, through you three!

I have been sent here to bring you safely back to my world! To show you where your purpose in life is" my purpose, I thought. This cant be… but I know it is, he's telling the truth. "The three who have been chosen may step down now, and follow your destiny!" it took maybe a minute, before the reaction he clearly didn't see coming occurred. Complete chaos. WHO IS THIS FREAK?! WHO LET HIM INTO THE SCHOOL!? SOMEBDDY HELP!? Just a few of the shouts the kids screamed into the sky. And in this chaos, for the first time, I felt like I was the only sane one in the world. Then, something happened, something that proved to test my mentally and emotionally.

As the screams came, Marissa stood up, and began to walk down the bleachers towards were Zelos was standing.

"Ma. Marissa" I began as I reached out for her hand. But she didn't look back, and as she was walking, I spotted the faintest glow of blue. Then out of the corner of my eye. I noticed Ravi, an exchange student from India. Move down the bleachers towards Zelos, he also showed a faint glow, but this one was red. Then it hit me, he mentioned three people. I looked down at my hands, hoping maybe, just maybe, I was one of them. But there was no glow that I could see. What I felt at that moment. Was probably the worst feeling ever, the feeling I really was someone without a purpose. Then as I looked up and back towards Zelos, I felt something worse, a mix of jealousy and distress. I saw my sister up there. Danielle surrounded in a faint glow of yellow. "Danielle!" I screamed. I ran down the bleachers and out towards the field when Zelos appeared right in front of me, with little time to stop, I ran right into him and ended up being the one knocked down. Up close he gave off a slightly dark presence. I wanted to run, get as far away from him as possible. But there was no way I was leaving my sister. I stood up and held my ground. Starting into the dark shades where his eyes should be.

"My sister is out there" I stated.

"Really?" he responded. "Well I suggest you make your goodbyes now, unfortunately, there is no guarantee that she will return"

"That's not what I want to hear!" I pushed past him and ran for my sister, not taking a look back, I got to her! And I grabbed her hand and turned her to face me.

"Come on. We need to get out of here" I spoke to her, but I don't think a word got through to her.

"Danielle! Come on we don't have much-"

"Leave me alone!" she yelled. "I can make my own decisions, this is what I need to do." I couldn't believe what I just heard. But I did. I heard her speak the words. But her eyes didn't. In fact, I think I saw a tear begin to well up in her eye.

Then Zelos spoke again/ "its time to go crew" aurora and earth are both at stake. Then out of thin air., a green light, hovering about 3 inches off the ground. It was an oval shape but big enough to fit maybe two people at a time in.

"step through the gate, and begin your destiny"

and just like that they began to walk in, Ravi first, and then Marissa. I cant believe I was watching my best friend just leave my life for what may be forever. I took a few steps towards the gate when Danielle started to speak again.

"Please, tell mom ill be okay" she said, full of emotion. When she began to follow Zelos into the portal. Only one thing came to mind at that moment. There's no way the most important people I have in my life, will just leave me behind. That was enough, enough to spark the only bit of courage and spontaneous nous I had in me. I ran towards the gate as it began to close behind her, taking a long dive for the only thing that mattered in my life. And as before I even reached the gate. I yelled to my sister, who I couldn't see any more.

"don't worry, we'll send her a postcard" and the portal closed…behind me.
