Placed inside a writhing mass
Children screaming, knobs of brass
A place for which I felt at home
Was somewhere I could never roam
Poor mother birthed and left me here
A building that delivers fear
Taunting, names, and pulling hair
And bruises, they were never rare
Toys were broken, bones were too
Often I was black and blue
Demons masquerade as kids
Play innocent, batting eyelids
Amid the dark I saw him linger
Pulled me close with index finger
Dim, yellow light and musty cloth
Stale breath eaten by moths
Filled me to the brim with pain
Tried to escape, cried out in vain
There surely is no God here
In this building that delivers fear
For many years it went like this
A childhood bereft of bliss
Perhaps one day I'll be free
Joy as far as the eye can see
I could take no more, I said
Upon this midnight I softly tread
Climbed up the frense so high
Touched ground, could feel the sky
Goodbye to this place of woes
Hasta la vista, as the saying goes
Sixteen years and free at last
Free of all my traumas past
