two widows hugging
i think of little girls
because they are so tiny
their statures compressed by time
two widows holding on
as if for dear life
another friend has died
and their love is like a halo
like the backlighting of the autumn leaves
in the early sun or the late sun
a photograph cannot translate their faces
what's its really like when you're in the setting
they know each other's secrets
two widows hugging
and i think of little girls
and i'm so proud of them
and so sad for our loss.
