The Song of Her Heart
By:
Margarita Maksimenko
Mel Axel stood in front of the brown cottage she owned, her heart fluttering in her chest.
Watching the birds that were nesting in the tree above her roof, she too wanted to fly.
Mel holding out her hands the wind moving through her hair, she felt free.
When she thought about the amount of work she put into buying the house, the hours seemed to sew up the broken pieces of her wounded heart.
Even today after an exhausting day of work, Mel knew it was all worth the pain.
Gathering her thoughts Mel was distracted by a car parked two houses down.
Not turning around she assessed the black van from her porch window.
When Mel caught sight of the driver watching her she got curious and a bit overwhelmed with the way this day was progressing for her.
Talking her bag off the lawn she went into her 1957 cottage, she deserved a rest.
That night Mel woke up sweating from the same nightmare she'd been having for 6 years in a row. Over the years it got uglier and scarier.
The only thing that made her weep every night was the fact that her family was still gone every time she woke up screaming.
Pulling her knees up, Mel rocked for a while; pretending she was still a little girl an' her mother would come and sing her back to sleep.
The melody of the past stilled on her lips, as the sun rose slowly lighting up her room.
The way the sun shone off the brightly colored draping, reminded Mel she had decorated the room to match her family.
Everything in this room was a memory she held dear.
The only thing she hadn't been able to recreate was her lovely mother and father; the way they used to tell everyone how proud they were they had a bunch of rowdy kids.
They never rushed through life taking it day by day making the blissful moments last.
Even though she hadn't been the only child, her parents treated each of us in a special way.
Telling us we each held a special place in their heart. But most important was that they made you want to live, live the life God created for you.
"Oh, how I longed to live like them" she wondered, tears gathering in her eyes a sudden picture of what she was now flashed before her eyes,
"how I just wish to rush on with life and not wait for it to catch up.
Oh but how they would be disappointed of me when they found out that there girl had not stopped long enough to enjoy what they had lovingly created."
Getting up Mel was not ready to face the day, but lifting up her head like her mother taught her.
With her courage wavering like a leaf, she walked into the new day.
Okay tell me what you think... PLEASE, its the only way i can find out if your reading what took me so long to write...
