Salvator mundi II [after Thomas Tallis]
I will go to limbo when I die
like all philosophers, poets, and nonbelievers
I will surrender to the city of dis, the
eternal question, my flesh
will be still in the graveyard, still
in the hypersensitive aftermath
of the quickening of my pulse, I
don't know if I will be a poet
when I die, daddy… I don't know
if I will still want to suffer
as we must all suffer for the good
of the work that must be done, the
good word that is hot on your lips, but
I will be in limbo when I am gone daddy,
you will have to learn to look for
me there.
