"Good Friends are hard to find harder to leave and impossible to forget"

Have you ever experienced that awkward moment when you realize you fell in love with your best friend. I have experienced that and this is the story about the one and only love that I have ever had.

Senior year is finally here I thought as I walked through the gates leading to my high school. I adjusted my backpack once more before walking to the classroom me and my friends have hung out in since freshman year. On my way there I passed by several people I have met over the years I smiled at them, I have been doing a lot of that since I got my braces off two days before senior pictures. I finally arrived at the classroom and took a deep breath before opening the door to my group of friends.

I looked around at them. We had Linette, Lin, who has been a friend of mine since second grade then there's her boyfriend James, he is kind of the jerk out of us. Then there's the twins Adela, Ads the older of the two, and Louella, or Ella as everyone calls her, they are wonderful friends I met in freshman year. Next comes Dee she's the innocent looking one that you have to look out for if you tick her off. Then we have Makani the energizer bunny of the group he looks about twelve but his really seven-teen with a stomach that's never full. And finally we have Hiro my very best friend that I met in my freshman PE class he is the sweet quiet and smart one.

"Hi guys!" I said after entering the room, everyone looked up and greeted me while I sat down.

"Hey Elaine why you still dressing like a prude?" James asked in his normal condescending tone.

"Hey James why are you still acting like an arse." I answered back quickly causing him to shut up and Lin to glare at me which I responded to with an eye roll. I turned so I was facing Dee who was swinging her legs back and forth while sitting on top of the desk.

"Dee did you watch that show I told you about, the Korean drama." I asked looking up at her from my sitting position. She nodded quickly and smiled and began rambling on about the show. As she was talking my eyes wandered around my group and stopped on Hiro who was talking to Makani about cross country. I gave a small smile I have liked Hiro since our sophomore year and the only people that knew were Ads and Ella who practically grew up with the guy. I tore my eyes away from him and gave my full attention to Dee who just finished talking as the bell rang. We all stood up and began walking out the door. I felt added weight on my backpack and turned to look at what it was. It was Hiro, he gave a small smile and ran his free hand through his messy black hair.

"Elaine we have first period together remember." I nodded blushing slightly at my forgetfulness. We continued walking to class. We made quite an odd pair if you were to look at us. Hiro was 5'10 thin with runner's muscles and the darkest brown eyes I have ever seen and he was tan thanks to him being on the track and the cross country teams. I was 5'3 at most curvy but thin with dark blond hair and icy blue eyes and I didn't tan I was either white as wonder bread or sunburned. After three minutes we arrived at our first period class, Japanese three. We took seats next to each other towards the back of the room.

"How was your summer Hiro?" I asked while pulling out my thick text book from my backpack.

"Same old same old me and my parents went to Japan for a month and a half and I hung out with you guys when we got back. How about you?" I looked at him and gave a small smile while putting on my reading glasses.

"My family and I just stayed here we did go to the coast for a week though and I got burned." I finished with a small sigh.

"Elaine you stand outside for one minute without SPF 120 and you get burned." Hiro dead panned while looking at the front of the room and then gave a small smile. I was just about to give my come back when our teacher came in.

"Guddomōningukurasu wa watashinonamaeha Yamashita senseidesu. Watashi wa Nihon no 3ttsu no kurasu to hijō ni yoi toshi o tanoshiminishiteimasu. Wareware wa tanjun'na minaoshi o watashitachi no ressun o kaishi shimasu." (Good Morning class my name is Yamashita-sensei. I look forward to a very good year with my Japanese three class. We will begin our lesson with a simple review.)

With that class began and our conversation ended. At the end of class I walked out with Hiro with a very depressed look on my face.

"Elaine what's wrong are you sick." I looked up at him with a very sad and serious look.

"Hiro I am going to fail that class." He chuckled slightly then patted my back.

"You'll be fine and if you need help I can always tutor you know I am fluent in Japanese. Elaine I'll see you later I have to go to my Physics class now I'll see you later okay." He smiled down at me causing me to smile back and wave to him as he walked away.

"Elaine when are you going to tell him?" I looked to my left only to find Ella next to me. I let out a small sigh.

"Ella I really don't know we're good friends and I don't want to lose that. So if he's happy then it's okay." She just smiled while shaking her head then wrapped an arm around my waist.

"Come on Elaine lets go to our Drawing class." I smiled and wrapped my arm around her waist too.
